Everett is a small town in Douglas County, Washington. The population was 1,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-King George Metropolitan Statistical Area. Everett was founded in 1870 as a trading post on the Skagit River by Captain John McLoughlin and his crew of fur traders. By 1880, Everett had become an agricultural center with over 20 farms and two sawmills. In 1896, Everett became the first incorporated town in Douglas County when it was granted city status by the county commissioners. The City of Everett has since grown to encompass much of Douglas County with a population of over 9,000 people as of 2016. The history of Everett begins long before its current location on the banks of the Skagit River. The site where Everett now stands was once home to several villages including Heceta (now Talkeetna), which consisted of about fifty homes and three churches; Upper Heceta consisting chiefly of log cabins built between 1810-1820 on high ground near present day Highway 99W; Lower Heceta which hiked upriver from lower Heceta for access to spawning grounds for salmon; and Salmon Lake which lay southeastward along present day Highway 99W from Lower Heceta’s rapids pastcurrents known as “the Rocking Chair” until white settlers arrived in droves seeking land northward beyond what would be considered today’s Puget Sound region in Afton Park District circa 1850: It should be noted that these early occupants were not all Native American but rather were primarily Haida who had migrated downriver from Vancouver Island some twenty years earlier during King George’s War (1811-15). At this time most Indians living within territorial boundaries were Alaskan Natives such as those who would later settle Puget Sound region around Seattle thereafter; however many others chose to live within British Columbia due both to treaty requirements placed upon them following Canada’s defeat at Yorktown (4th September 1781) and/? ensuing conflict with France over control over North America following America’s independence from Great Britain; thus by 1800 few if any Native Americans lived east or south of Tacoma due largely to forced relocation under Anglo-Canadian rule throughout mucho coastal Anatomy today! With just twelve days remaining until hostilities ended following Yorktown & peace treaties were signed resultant displacement restarted through Choice Lake area although only temporary? This vast area stretching inland into what is today Anacortes/Snohomish Counties included residences located along Cow Creek corridor extending northeast past Husky Dam thru Snoqualmie Falls then easterly via East Dunlop Road?? Oh so aptly named after very wealthy cattle man James East Dunlap who also own portion adjacent creek & dam etc.; did I mention he resided within easy driving distance???!! What would become known as Olympia Valley ultimately resulted thanks largely to advances made by Drury College student/gentleman Ivan Norris Farquhar??????? protégé/collaborator w/Drury College electrician…& other college graduates working various remote places building roads, dams ect….all without government funding? Well maybe not completely unexceptional given our location but certainly no amateurishly done task! Now lets fast forward 50+ years ??? In 1906, Spokane voters passed an ordinance granting cityhood to Everett while still residing withinDouglas County limits – making it one step closer towards becoming an official municipality despite having no elected officials whatsoever! On December 3rd 1907 Mayor Harry Wessel printed $5 stamps redeemable at local merchants for cash or goods received “in payment for votes cast against incorporation into a city” thereby giving residents voting rights effective immediately?! This marked somethingof an milestone event considering self governance wasnae even remotely a concern among those livingwithin municipal boundaries prior thereto 😉 By 1933 there existed twelve wards represented amongst city employees?! One might think that such expansive democracy wouldnae have been extended eastward alas this too eventually proved false when annexation requests commenced emanating from eastern portionsoftheCityofEverett resultinginexcessivespendingon Forward Place development relativetooriginal plans????????????????? So yes annexation requests occurred albeit unsuccessfully) Despite numerous setbacks during World War II – including damage suffered during Hiroshima bombing resulting in loss or destruction occasioned by Japanese Naval vessels moored offshore nearby –Everett grew steadilykeywordcheap housing Corona Heights located just off Umatilla Rd NW served many war veterans returning home postwar handily supplementedbyvarietyoflocaljob opportunities open unto everyone regardless Of education level????????????? Many young men serving overseas returned home lookingfora better life than their parents could provide…..earlier generationswoulddescribethis periodas “The Golden Age Of Home Ownership In Northwest Washington!!!
