Enumclaw is a small community located in the Yakima Valley of Washington. The population was estimated at 1,500 in 2010. Enumclaw is home to the Yakima Indian Nation and the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Paiute Indians. The community was founded in 1871 by pioneers who came from what is now Oregon. In 1910, the town had a population of 375 people and it was abandoned in 1978 after an outbreak of polio caused several hundred residents to flee their homes. Today, only a few hundred people live in Enumclaw, most of whom are descendants of those who left during the early years. The area that now makes up Enumclaw was first inhabited by the Atakapassee tribe. After they were driven out by Spanish settlers in 1792, some friendly natives began living with these new arrivals and trading goods with them. By 1811, there were about 20 families living here permanently and hunting game on site as well as fishing for salmon and other seafoods near present-day Yakima Falls (then called rapids). In 1871, two men named George Smith and Hiram Sweet opened a store in what is now downtown Enumclaw on Main Street. At this time, there were noroads or schools in this part of central Washington so inhabitants relied on horseback transportation to get around. In 1912, when railroad lines reached this area, Enumclaw became one of the first communities to receive trains into town from Yakima County’s agricultural production (now Bentonville). After World War I ended and prices for bread increased due to war-related inflation, business owners decided to move their businesses away from downtown but keep their doors open until evening so customers could buy groceries before going home. This type of business operation continued until about 1925 when supermarkets started opening up all over town which led to closures for many businesses over time including Mr. Smith’s store which went out of business around 1930 after spending $1 million ($ as of 2019) remodeling its building unable to compete with newer stores that came online at that time . Most recently, development has been taking place near downtown which includes new apartments/condos complexes as well as a Walmart Supercenter; however much work still needs to be done before future development can happen withoutangering historical structures such as Mr. Smith’s store which is still standing today despite being nearly 100 years old!

Enumclaw is a small town in King County, Washington, located on the Chilliwack River. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Issaquah-Washougal-Fremont census area. The first settlers in the area were Native Americans who built their villages near the river's banks during the 18th century. In 1792, Enumclaw was founded by Captain George Vancouver and his men as a trading post on what is now Kitsap Boulevard. The town name comes from an Alaskan word meaning "a place where one can go to fetch fish". In 1876, Enumclaw was incorporated as a town and named for British Columbia explorer John McLoughlin who had named it after his home city of Ennimachi (now Kamloops). In 1919, when World War I ended and America entered World War II, Enumclaw became a U.S. military base with an airfield and other facilities including a prisoner of war camp and rationing warehouses. American troops occupied the town until 1945 when it reverted back to Japanese control after they were forced out of Japan by Allied forces during World War II. The Japanese abandoned most of their holdings in Northwest Washington following their surrender and moved back into Japan in late 1945; however, some small parcels of land around Enumclaw remain under American sovereignty today. In 1949, when Washington became a state, Enumclaw became one of its original towns along with Issaquah and Waverly; both towns retained their separate identities until 1978 when they merged to form one entity known as King County (though each still retains its own governing body). Since then, growth has occurred in both communities with new businesses opening up within each while also maintaining close ties between them; this has led to renewed interest in preserving these pioneer cultures which have made both towns such unique places within King County culture today. A variety of events are held throughout year to celebrate local culture such as art festivals or carnivals which often feature traditional food items from various areas around enumsclaw such as salmon or Squid Ink ice cream Sundaes
