Enumclaw is a small town located in the Yakima Valley of Washington. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. The name "Enumclaw" meaning "place where many trees grow" is derived from a Two Medicine Indian word meaning "I go to the woods". In 1854, George Vancouver explored this area and dubbed it by his first name for the abundance of cedar and fir trees that he saw. Enumclaw became an important transportation center during the early days of roadbuilding in this region. In 1904, John Wesley Powell discovered what would become Mount Rainier National Park here in Enumclaw. This site had been listed as part of Spokane County since 1853 when it was part of what was then called Tulalip Indian Nation. On February 14, 1903, US president Grover Cleveland signed into law Public Law 103-272 providing for creation of Mount Rainier National Park including all lands east of the Cascade Range within present day Yakima and Lewis Counties in Washington State. The park now includes over 16 million acres (70,000 km²) including most of what is now Enumclaw Township and parts of Whatcom County in British Columbia Canada

Enumclaw is a small town in King County, Washington, located on the eastern bank of the Wenatchee River. The population was 684 at the 2010 census. It has been called "the most beautiful town in America." The first European to see Enumclaw was Capt. George Vancouver on May 20, 1792 while exploring British Columbia. Vancouver named the bay and river mouth after his friend and mentor, Enumclaw Chief Joseph Banks. In 1836, John McLoughlin built a mill on the river near present-day Enumclaw after acquiring land from Chief Joseph's people. By 1880, there were ten businesses in the town with a total payroll of $10,000. A post office was established in 1881 and remained open until it closed in 1925. In 1916, then-Governor of Washington James Fenton granted inclusion to Enumclaw as part of what became known as "The Grant Lands Program." The program brought new life to an area that had been mostly rural since before white settlement began in King County. Many farmers and ranchers who had lived off the land moved into houses for the first time since World War I. During World War II, much of what is now downtown Enumclaw was built as military housing by local residents who supplied food and munitions to Washington's war efforts during its early days. After victory over Japan in 1945 opened up Japan again to foreign investment following World War II, many Japanese citizens came to live and work among Americans after they were released from prison camps across America where they had served time under occupation authorities! A new high school was completed in 1954 following plans by Mayor Harry Sink which included funds provided by Congressman Don Young (R-Alaska). At that time enrollment totaled 350 students but increased rapidly due to growth within the community east of Interstate 5 including Kirkland Lake – which merged with Enumclaw into one municipality years later – until it reached its current size of 1,100 students today! The old high school building remains vacant today although it is occasionally used for cultural events or for storage purposes by local businesses!
