The Enumclaw Rifle Company was founded in 1911 by George W. Enumclaw and his brother, William D. Enumclaw. The company manufactured rifles for the military and hunting markets. In 1916, the company relocated to Everett, Washington and began producing receivers for the commercial market. In 1922, the company became a subsidiary of Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The Enumclaw Rifle Company ceased production in 1940 because of World War II restrictions on firearms manufacturing.
Enumclaw is a town in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the local Enumclaw Creek and its tributaries. The first settler in what is now Enumclaw was John Chapman in 1853. He named his land "Chapman's Prairie" after himself. In 1876, the United States Government leased land from the Yakima Nation for a sawmill on Enumclaw Creek. The mill produced lumber for then-President Ulysses S. Grant's White House and other government buildings in Washington D.C.. When that mill closed in 1907, many of the people who had worked at it left to start their own businesses or to stay closer to their families back home. In 1912, George Coker established Camp Coker on what is now Wesleyan Road about two miles east of present day Enumclaw Elementary School; this camp served as an encampment for troops during World War I and later housed many residents of Grays Harbor County when that county became part of Washington Territory following the war. During World War II over 1,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated at Camp Shafter on Elliott Bay near Olympia before being moved to nearby Topaz concentration camp during 1942-1945; most were released by 1945 but some continued to serve until shortly before their death in early 1959 due to ill health caused by incarceration conditions there includinginement withcancerous cells problems). After World War II ended and Western civilization stabilized again (thankfully), Camp Coker reverted back into an agricultural community until it too closed down around 1975 amidst much controversy among local residents about its use as a commercial Indian reservation post-WWII! Today only a few houses remain standing of those which once served as homes for farmhands, fishermen and others living off the soil who made up much of Enumclaw's past inhabitants; however photos taken years ago show typically busy streetscape typical of rural communities located just outside city limits today where crops still line hillsides and children play near water pumps site long lost decades ago!

The first settlement in what is now Washington County was made by the Lewis and Clark Expedition on July 20, 1807. The pioneers arrived at the site of what is now Enumclaw Creek, about a mile upstream from present-day Olympia. They named their new village "Higgins," after General James H. Higgins, who served as a part of the expedition. Higgins Village lasted for only a few months before it was destroyed by a fire. A second settlement, this time called "Grizzly Pass," was established two miles to the south of Higgins Village. However, both settlements were abandoned within a year because of severe weather conditions and lack of food supplies. The first permanent residents of Enumclaw Township were those who moved to the area in 1858 when it was created from parts of Columbia and Whitman Counties. At that time, there were just over 200 people living in Washington County. The growth of the county during the early years was due to both its location and its growing mineral resources. By 1870, Enumclaw had reached an population sizeof around 2,000 people; however, this number rapidly grew during the late 1800s as more and more settlers began arriving in Washington County seeking access to land that had been claimed by Oregon or Idaho since President George Washington granted land purchases to individuals in 1792 (see History of Oregon). During World War II, many local businesses turned their attention to supplying troops with food and materials needed for war production; these businesses included First National Bank (1941), Joes Clothing Store (1945), Pacific Paper Mill (1946), Wm Scripps Media Company (1948), Northwest Electric Utility Company (1949) and Northwest Telephone Company (1950). In 1970, Enumclaw became one of twelve communities within Thurston County which merged into King County pursuant to Order 9-2-060A under section 901(a) of the Local Government Law Of King County et al.. On January 1st 1973 all former ThurstonCounty communities became King County townships subject to chapter 617b RCW which amended RCW 36UO - 12A regarding taxes levied by participating municipalities upon annexation intoKingCounty
