In 1875, the town of Ellensburg was founded in western Washington by gold miners. The town quickly grew and became a majorRawhide ranching community. By 1907, the population of Ellensburg had reached 2,000 people. The Rawhide family ran the grocery store, post office, and other businesses in the town. Over time, other families also moved into Ellensburg and started their own businesses. In 1927, the citizens of Ellensburg voted to make their city government separate from the towns around it. As a result of this vote, the City Council began to develop its own agenda and provide its own services within the city limits. Today, Ellensburg is home to over 25% of Washington's population and is one of the most vibrant cities in Western Washington. The city has experienced many changes over the years – from being an agricultural center during World War II to becoming a major technology hub during the late 20th century. Despite these challenges, however,Ellensburg continues to thrive as a forward-thinking community that values diversity and opportunity. Over time, other companies followed The Elegant Gun Company's lead and started manufacturing their own versions of soft gun cases. Among these companies was Eastern Guns Manufacturing Company, which became well-known for its innovative soft gun cases. These cases could be easily converted into handguns by simply removing the magazine tube and installing a new one; this made them very easy to use, even if you were never particularly skilled atsmithing firearms. However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for Eastern Guns Manufacturing Company during the late 1800s and early 1900s; times were tough for businesses during those years. For a while there seemed to be no end to the wars between America's two main powers: World War I and World War II. As a result, demand for guns increased greatly but profits dwindled; this put Eastern Guns Manufacturing Company in difficult shape financially. In fact, it went out of business within just a few years of its establishment! But that didn't mean that the company couldn't still make some great soft gun cases! Some of its successors still managed to create high-quality products despite facing difficult circumstances; these companies are known as "the old guard." Ellensburg is a city in Yakima County, Washington, United States. The population was 17,853 at the 2010 census. It has the status of a local government municipality. The city was named after Colonel George Armstrong Custer and first proposed to the Yakima Indian Treaty Commission in 1881. The commission voted against it because they felt that the name should be approved by both sides to avoid confusion among the Indians and settlers. After some further discussion, commissioners decided on Ellensburg after reviewing several submissions from citizens. The town site was surveyed in 1882 by Captain John Ladd and Lieutenant Andrew Jorgenson and began construction two years later on October 25, 1883. The town was platted with 12 blocks wide and 50 blocks long with a single street running east-west through it. At its peak, Ellensburg had a population of over 100 people but declined shortly thereafter due to lack of business opportunities and competition from nearby towns such as Lynden, which had become more populous since Yakima's incorporation as a county in 1889. In 1902, when Yakima County became an independent state, Ellensburg reverted back to its original name of Turtle Rock until 1921 when it changed once again to Ellensburg following approval by the State Legislature. In 1941 the name reverted back to turtle rock once again until it was changed once again in 1984 following approval by voters via a referendum charter amendment process known as "Directdemocracy". In 1996 the City Council passed an ordinance establishing zoning regulations for use within downtownEllensbergtown limits subject only to review every 5 years pursuant to provisions set forth therein governing Municipal Zoning Appeals Committee Hearings; This Review Board is composed of 3 Independent Business Owners (IBOs) who are appointed annually by Mayor).Today DowntownEllensbergtown has over 150 businesses including many small mom & pop stores catering primarilyto lower income residents who work within walking or biking distanceof their homes......... In 1792, George Vancouver explored what is now Yakima River and mistakenly identified the Nisqually as its inhabitants. This caused some tension between the two groups and led to sporadic fighting. In 1847, Peter Stephenson discovered gold near present-day Ellensburg while prospecting for coal in what is now British Columbia. With this discovery, many people from around Western Washington migrated to search for gold in what is now central Washington State. By 1850, there were over 100 businesses in town and over 1,000 people living here. The arrival of railroads madeEllensburg even more popular for business travelers and shipping fleets looking for cargo space on Puget Sound's boats. The towns growth continued until 1903 when an devastating fire destroyed most of downtownEllensburg and killed many local residents including several prominent businessmen including JT Maynard and WF Wilkinson Sr.. Although both cities experienced significant loss during their respective fires (theassaults on building security at both events), they each managed to rebuild quickly thanks to support from friends and family members. After years of reconstruction efforts which included hiring new firefighters/paramedics/builders etc., both cities are today among the most healthy communities in Western Washington!
The town of Ellensburg was founded in 1881 by men from the district of Elliott, Washington Territory. The town grew rapidly and in 1903 it incorporated as a city. In 1915, the United States Congress passed the bill creating Yakima County, Washington, and Ellensburg became its county seat.
