Many small towns throughout the country became involved in war efforts;Ellensburg was no exception. The Citizens’ Committee for American Defense (CCCAD) was formed and began stockpiling food and supplies at local businesses. On April 6th, 1917, patriotic citizens demonstrated outside of City Hall against what they saw as government indifference to their plight abroad while also protesting low wages and lack of benefits at home
