After he died in 1885, his wife Victoria took over the business. In 1902, she donated land to build a park in memory of her husband. There were several handguns confiscated from citizens here during prohibition days because they were deemed as weapon of war or piracy (Reed 2009). In 1933, John Dillinger moved here from Illinois after escaping from prison. He had been convicted for robbing banks and cars in Chicago (Hanson 1990). When he arrived in Ellensburg, agents were looking for him. They found several guns at his place which made them suspicious (Dillinger 1934a). Many famous people have resided or worked here including: Crazy Horse Ranch Owner Sitting Bull; General Grant; Helen Keller; Alice Paul; Roy Wilkins; Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; Neil Armstrong

In 1928 a dam was built across Clearwater Creek to provide water for Ellensburg Village which became an important commercial center early on in its history. In 1950, when Yakima County merged with adjacent Thurston County,Ellensburg became part of Thurston County's new county seat. In 1959 it again became part of Yakima County when Thurston Countys split into two parts following a congressional redistricting move that resulted in Yakimas losing their share of Thurston Countys' congressional districts; however, they regained their share once it was reallocated back to Yakima County proper on January 3rd, 1960 The University of Washington campus occupies most of downtown Ellensburg while two shopping malls - One near Interstate 5 (the portal between Everett and Seattle) and another near Lake Union - anchor much of easternside town while West Side High School serves as a comprehensive school for students from both sides oftown.. The only remaining business district located within city limits is around South Waterfront Drive/State Route 98E where several small businesses still operate although few people live or work within these boundaries anymore due to loss or consolidation of other businesses within city limits such as Lowe's Home & Hardware store etc along with increase development pressure from university enrollment which has impacted retail sales throughout much portions thereof . Most residents are self-employed proprietors who have relied upon agriculture provided mainstay employment until recent decades including Davis Nursery Cooperative which operated five full-time nurseries until 2006 when it closed its doors due to competition from larger growers generally found outside urban areas although some parents continue to send children to UW subsidized public schools inside city limits despite protestations by anti-union activists

Ellensburg is an agricultural community located in the U.S. state of Washington. The population was 5,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Thurston County Micropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded by Peter Thomson in 1872 and named after General George Washington's birthplace, Mount Vernon. There are a few dozen homes remaining from Thomson's original settlement of about 100 people. On July 20, 1881, the first train left Ellensburg for Seattle on its inaugural trip west; it was made up of thirteen passengers and one locomotive hauled by horses and wagons. In 1916, the town had 996 residents; by 1960, that number had shrunk to 434 residents when the post office closed. In 1922, a new high school was built in town and renamed for Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison (1794-1878). Morison helped lead American naval forces during World War I and later became an important supporter of education in Thurston County. In 1957-58, work began on building a new high school which would be dedicated as “Samuel Eliot Morison High School” in honor of his memory and contributions to education within the community. Construction finished in 1961 with Classes starting on September 1st that year under then Superintendent Homer Hargrave Jr.. On October 3rd 1959 local media reported that changes were being made to the high school name applied to all other schools within Thurston County including Ellensburg despite having no connection with Sam Eliot Morison High School – this story has been repeated many times over time without any clarification from officials or news sources as to why this change took place or what impact it may have had on enrollment or future plans for the school complex! Today there are only two buildings remain from back whenEllensburg had 10 schools: One is now used as housing for students at nearby Lewis & Clark College while another is still being used as storage for Ellensburg Schools until a permanent solution can be found for both properties! Despite these recent setbacks however Community members continue to push hard towards making their favorite pastime: Wrestling! The wrestling team has enjoyed some success throughout their history both before and after Sam Eliot Morison High School… but they will need help if they want to compete against more established programs like Olympia High School which appear to have quite a bit more resources than them financially!

In 1821, the Lewis and Clark Expedition explored the Columbia River. The expedition was led by Lieutenant Colonel Lewis and Major Clark. The first permanent white settlement in what is now Ellensburg was founded in 1824 by fur traders from Russia. In 1825, the town became a county seat of Whitman County. In 1854, the first railroad reached Ellensburg and it served as a major center for transportation until Railroads were built to reach greater distances in the mid-19th century. Ellensburg became an important manufacturing center during thelate 19th century with cotton mills and other industries developing around downtown. During World War II, Ellensburg played an important role as a military airfield and training ground, helping contribute to America's victory over Nazi Germany.
