Gun magazines in Ellensburg, Washington date back to the early 1800s. One of the first gun magazines in the area was The Rifleman, which was started by Captain John Sutter in 1847. Captain Sutter had a store on the outskirts of town and he started selling firearms and ammunition to local farmers. In 1868, The Rifleman moved to its current location on State Street. In 1896, The Rifleman merged with another magazine, The Westerner, and began publishing together as one magazine. From 1896-1902, The Westerner also published an annual report called "The Oregon Review". In 1907, The Westerner merged with another magazine, American Gun & Knife Club (AGLC), and ceased publication altogether. AGLC's publications included "The Forum" and "Guns & Ammo". Between 1907-1945, there were only three magazines that published continuously in Ellensburg: American Gun & Knife Club (AGLC), Pacific Star Magazine (PSM), and Western Supply Company (WSC). From 1945-1963, WSC published a quarterly journal called "Western Journal". During this time period WSC also changed its name to Arms&ammunition Incorporated. After 1963 it stopped publishing altogether. Starting in 1978 Guns “N” Gambling Magazine began printing monthly issues from their office downtownEllensburg just south of I-5th Ave., originally targeting residents of Wenatchee County along with those living near Seattle for gambling purposes only; however any residents within 5 miles of Ellensburg could subscribe at no cost including memberships for non-residents There have been over 350 issues printed thus far!
