Elkins, Washington is a small town in the Yakima Valley of western Puget Sound. It was founded in 1847 by Willamette traders. The first gun shop in Elkins was established by George A. Smith and James W. McDonald in 1851.The Western Gun and Knife Show was held at the Seattle Columbian Exposition from October 5-8, 1893, and included rifles, shotguns, pistols and other firearms for sale to exhibitors and visitors from around the world. Guns were also on display at the local post office which opened its doors on November 1st, 1893. In 1907, Elkins became one of the original towns within the City of Ellensburg when it was incorporated as a city under state law No. 6219. In 1915 Ellensburg adopted a resolution ratifying the Treaty of Paris between America and Germany resulting in World War I being fought within our borders After World War II ended with Japan's surrender on September 2nd 1945, many Japanese Americans who had been living in Elkins were finally allowed to return home after years of detention camps located throughout Oregon, Washington Territory (now WA), Northern California and Arizona On December 14th 1950 Elkins voted by referendum to become an open carry town becoming one of just two US cities (the other being Phoenix) that did so without any prior legislation

After Franklin D Roosevelt left office, the town slowly lost its popularity because so few people wanted to live there because of the cost of living relative to other towns in Kittitas County. However, over time some new residents have come to Ellensburg and it is now back on track with its once high-population status!

Ellensburg is a town located in Washington County, Washington. The population was 2,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-Tacoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Ellensburg was George Catlin who built a log cabin on the edge of Chief Joseph's Lake in 1827. A post office was established in 1829, and by 1834 it had become the largest town east of the Cascade Mountains. In 1836, Congress created Wenatchee County from parts of Douglas and Kitsap counties and named Ellensburg as its county seat. In 1870, James Hargrave built a sawmill on Big Butte Creek near present day Woodinville and began to process lumber for export. By 1880, his mill had produced over 350 barrels per day worth of lumber. soon other mills followed suit with Hagerve becoming one of the most important lumber companies in Washington County until his death in 1906. During World War II, many factories were set up around Ellensburg including Boeing which manufactured aircraft; GE Aviation which made radios and televisions; automobile maker Pierce-Arrow; munitions plant Arsenal Ammunition Company; Standard Oil refinery (later Chevron) and much more The war left behind an extensive destruction including military barracks, housing developments for workers (later known as "ghost towns"), churches, schools and other infrastructure that remain today within walking distance or driving distance of downtownEllensburg
On April 18, 1865, U.S. General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia after a three-year long Civil War. The Union had lost the war and most of its territory, including Ellensburg. The Treaty of Fort Stevens was signed by both sides on May 2 and resulted in the cession of all except for about 12 miles of present day Ellensburg to the Confederacy.
