In 1868, when Ellensburg was founded as the county seat of Clark County, Washington, there were no firearms regulations in place. This lack of regulation allowed numerous arms smugglers and criminals to bring in firearms from all over the country. Ammunition dealers quickly became key players in this business and were able to provide customers with quality rounds at a fraction of the price of other retailers. The Ellensburg Arsenal was a powder magazine and armory located in the town of Ellensburg, Washington, USA. It operated from 1853 to 1899. The arsenal was built by General George Custer and his army during the American Civil War as part of Fort Snelling's ammunition supply depot. It was used for artillery ammunition, supplies for cavalry units, and also for manufacturing munitions such as cordite and black powder.

In 1951, work began on Interstate 5 through Yakima Valley; this project increased commerce and brought new jobs to town center businesses such as KFC, Safeway, Applebee's restaurants and many more since I-5 connected all parts of Washington State

In 1905,Ellensburghs annexation by Spokane created an Urban/Rural RuralMicropolitan Statistical Area which still exists today (2007 Census). In 1957, annexations from Sullivan and Kittitas counties completed also creating areas within MICSAs boundaries that are still considered rural: eastern Kittitas County encompasses much of present-day Ellensburg; western Sullivan County includes much of present-day Olympia; eastern Everett County includes much of present-day Cheneyville; and northwestern Snohomish County includes most of present-day Renton

The town of Ellensburg was founded in 1853 by George and Lillie Brougham. The town grew rapidly during the early 1800s, due to its location at the junction of two wagon routes. In 1864, the U.S. Military built Fort Ellensburg in honor of General John C. Frémont, who had fought in the Mexican-American War. The fort served as a military headquarters for many years, and also housed a detachment of artillery that played an important role in defending the city during World War I. In 1955, the United States Congress passed a resolution recognizing the town's importance to Washington state and its history. The resolution called for President Dwight D. Eisenhower to proclaim January 10th as "Fort Ellensburg Day" in recognition of the town's contributions to both Washington state and American history.
