The first airguns in Ellensburg, Washington were rifles. Rifle shooters from the early 1800s brought their crude muzzleloaders and shotguns to shoot at targets from long distances. By 1892, there were five firearms dealers in town and six gunsmiths. The rifle shooters had learned how to reload their guns and make them fire more rounds quickly so they could take advantage of the latest rifles being developed.
Ellensburg is a small town in Yakima County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Yakima County and the home of Mount Olympus National Monument. The first Europeans to visit what is now Yakima County were traders from Siberia who passed through the area in summer 1853 on their way to Puget Sound. They named the area Ellensburg after General William E. Ellsworth, an American general in the Mexican–American War and Governor of Oregon Territory who had fought in that conflict against Mexico. In 1855, Congress created Mount Olympus National Monument as part of efforts to protect national monuments across America. In 1901, a group of farmers led by George Wickersham erected a woolen mill on what is now Main Street in Ellensburg. The mill continued production until it was destroyed by fire in 1932. A new woolen mill was built on West Main Street in 1935 and continued operations until it closed down in 1984; it has been occupied intermittently ever since by various businesses including a restaurant and movie theatre called "The movies". The town was founded as a result of local landfill annexation into Yakima County during World War II; alluvial gold mining began shortly afterwards but ceased when prices for gold declined due to over-production by other mines around the region. Gold mining resumed when demand increased for coins used as currency and other bullion items after World War II ended; however, this activity also ceased when gold prices dropped again due to over-production caused by technological advances such as automated smelting plants that could produce more gold than needed). The town started out as two small settlements: Northtown (later renamed Easttown) and Southtown (later renamed Westtown). Northtown predated SouthTown by about five years; both villages were established along First Creek west of present day State Route 206 east of Interstate 5 (the so-called “old main street”), which ran north/south before turning west towards downtown Yakima Fallsitentown along today’s State Route 9W (now Main Street). Erected between 1902-1904 according to plans drawn up by then Supervisor John Cavanaugh – one block long with three stories high (!), Northtown served primarily as an agricultural center while Easttown became known for its local glassblowing business run byViola Bowersox and her husband Harry Bowersox (+ several dozen local silverwaremiths). At that time there were no paved streets or telephone service inside either settlement... Only dirt roads wound their way through these rural communities deep into remote hillsides where fields stretched out like walls just beyond view... Downtown buildings consisted mostly of log huts supplemented occasionally here or there with some type of frame structure prior to 1906 whenruction began on what would ultimately become Pioneer Hall + Post Office building which still stands today ==> Today's Odd Fellows Lodge #6 & Community Center are located adjacent thereto!

In 1907, Ellensburg became a city and has since been one of the most important towns in Washington County. Today, it is a census-designated place (CDP) with a population of over 30,000 people. The history of Ellensburg can be traced back to its earliest days as an agricultural center. For many years,Ellensburg was home to some of Washington’s leading grain farmers and saw extensive crops grown including wheat, barley, oats, maize, potatoes and roses. In addition to their farming activities, early residents also built businesses such as a millinery store and post office in downtown Ellensburg. By 1863-64, however, things started to change at Ellensburgh as troops arrived in response to Ulysses S. Grant’s “March on Moscow” during the American Civil War……………………………………………………………..
In 1872, the Lewis and Clark Expedition crossed the Columbia River in search of a Northwest Passage. In 1889, after a journey of over 1,500 miles across the country, US Geological Survey mapmaker George Bancroft mapped what would become Ellensburg. The town was founded on July 24th, 1892 by territorial governor John A. Wise with the help of local businessmen and settlers. The first store in town opened its doors two days later. By 1897, Ellensburg had a population of just under 100 people.
