Edmonds is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The name "Edmonds" comes from English settlers who named it after Edward Everett, an American politician and member of the United States House of Representatives from 1851 to 1861. The first white person to live in what is now Edmonds was George Vancouver in 1792. The first post office was established in 1853. In 1907, Edmonds became a city and has since grown substantially with the annexation of nearby rural land over time. Today, Edmonds is one of two cities in Washtenaw County and its economy revolves around agriculture, tourism, education and defense services. Edmonds is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Edmonds was John Forbes in 1846. He built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the Sound of Elliott Bay and named it Forbes Landing. In 1847, another pioneer, James Waddell, came to the same location and erected a small frame house which he called "Wadsworth." A post office was established at Forbes Landing in 1851, and by 1865 it had become known as Edmonds. In 1881, farmers John Cramer and Jacob Weibel bought land east of present-day Edmonds from the Government of Washington for $5 per acre (the equivalent of $ in ). They laid out five townships: Central Township (later renamed Northshore), Eastside Township (later renamed Issaquah), Southshore Township (later renamed Southbend), Westshore Township (later renamed Westsound) and Northwest Highlands township. The new townships were each organized into blocks with a one-mile radius around their center - Block Island being located northeast of Northshore blockhead while Northeast Highlands was located west of South Shore blockhead. In 1902, George Hough became interested in Forks Creek Valley adjacent to his farm near what is now Midtown Edmonds and starteddigging coal holes there as early as 1892; these coal workings remained operational until 1965 when they were closed due to pollution from nearby factories. The town's first school opened in 1896 on land donated by Mrs. Anna Mapes Dodge; this facility served grades 1 through 8 until 1969 when it was replaced by Midtown High School which serves all students within its boundaries

Edmonds was founded in 1851 by John and Jane Edmonds. The town was named for the family's farmstand on the east side of the river. In 1872, the town became a city and was incorporated in 1907. The population reached 24,000 in 1950, and peaked at 50,000 in 1970. After declining steadily throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Edmonds' population reached 31,500 in 2010.
