The first post office was established in 1877 and was named by local rancher Pee Wee Edmonds. The name has been changed several times since then including Edmonds (1912) and Edmondson (1968). In 1907, the town had a population of 94 people and it became an incorporated village in 1912. On October 1, 1968, the village merged with neighboring Cedarburg to form one community with a total population of 11,431. Edmonds produces fruit trees for local markets and also grows potatoes for local consumption. The main industry that drives economic development in this small town is agriculture which accounts for more than half of its GDP.
