It is located on the eastern edge of the Seattle metropolitan area and is one of the most ethnically diverse towns in the United States. In 1912, Everson Aircraft Company opened its hangar on Broadway which later became home to Boeing Field AFB (now CenturyLink Field). The company sponsored many local events including football games and music concerts throughout the years. The 1920s saw heavy growth around Boeing Field as World War II picks up pace; resulting in an increase of jobs opportunities for workers at Boeing and other companies across King County. With no end to World War II until 1945 when Japan surrendered (which also ended hostilities), Edmonds experienced rapid growth during that time period; becoming home to over 100 businesses by 1951 according to Business Gazette Magazine's list of "The 50 Most populous Towns In America." During these years there were also large renovations/updates done to many of the buildings along First Avenue South such as additions/replacements for classrooms/clubhouses; as well as new business establishments being constructed or renovated including a movie theater/theater complex built by PepsiCo., KFC restaurants opened shortly thereafter, Dick's Sporting Goods moved into their current location adjacent to Interstate 5 south of downtown while Safeway Stores relocated closer north onto First AvenueSouth within just a few years' time! After World War II ended with Japan's surrender, local steel production increased due toanticipated post-war demand for war materials such as aluminum cans and aircraft parts; this led to expansion of both heavy industry and light industry within the town boundaries over time. The many new businesses brought about by this growth created more than 50 new jobs during 1990–2000 alone; however much progress has been made since then relative to joblessness or poverty rates among residents living within walking distance of job opportunities downtown or in other larger industrial areas outside town limits.
