Edmonds bought 160 acres (65 ha) of land in what is now the town site from John Stephenson. In 1875, he donated another 640 acres (250 ha) to the town for use as a public square. The first school in Edmonds was built in 1879 by Dr. J H White and it served students until 1905 when a new building was dedicated and named after him. In 1886, President Grover Cleveland established the Puget Sound Agricultural Experiment Station at what is now known as Harbor View Farm outside of Edmonds on behalf of farmers throughout Puget Sound and Washington state; this station played an important role in developing farming methods and technology forSeattle residents today. During World War II, many citizens worked on military bases located nearby such as Boeing Field and Naval Base Kitsap—all within easy driving distance of Edmonds—thus helping contribute to local morale during wartime efforts. According to the 2010 census, there are 3,813 people living in Edmonds with 1,711 households out of which just over half have children under eighteen years old—the highest concentration ever reported for any U.S.–based municipality or county. Edmonds is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County. The name "Edmonds" comes from English settler John Edmondson who came to this area in 1827 and founded what is now the town. The first white person to live in Edmonds was John Young in 1829. He built a cabin on land that he purchased from Chief Seattle. He named his cabin Mount Hood after Mount Hood, Oregon's highest peak. In 1840 Gouverneur Morris established a ferry service between Edmonds and Olympia which helped bring settlers into the area from Puget Sound region of Washington State. In 1851, James White opened a store in what is now downtown Edmonds; it was one of several stores that grew up around this time as people started looking for markets for their goods and services outside of Seattle. In 1865, when Puget Sound earthquake struck (the largest man-made quake on record), the ground shook so hard that some trees were knocked down near by businesses like White's store and Storey's sawmill caught fire (it still stands today). This event served as an impetus for building more sturdy buildings around downtown Edmonds and increased development along Railroad Avenue across from White's store over the next few years. In 1876, Yolo County was formed out of part of King County; Edmonds became its county seat. In 1912, voters passed an act increasing the size of King County by 10%, making it wider than it had been before but not including any territory within present-day Alki Beach or Everett (nor much beyond those boundaries). As newer areas developed closer toSeattle - such as Ballard and Redmond -Edmond lost importance until again becoming county seat in 1925 when all new counties were created statewide through voter approval under then-Gov.(then) Edwin Meese III.. A post office called "Everett" opened on December 15th 1870, and ceased operations on November 1st 1888 due to changes in state law which granted jurisdiction over towns east of Tacoma to Richland County while leaving rural central Washington withKing with sole responsibility for mail delivery between Tacoma & Olympia...the situation only changed marginally until 1907 when Richland transferred control back toKing when they annexe ed Grays Harbor Island... however Mail Delivery continued uninterrupted until 1911 when Service was discontinued due to another state law change effective October 1st that year which eliminated all local post offices & vested all mail delivery responsibilities with Tacoma Metropolitan Area Sharmaack responded quickly by opening his own Post Office inside City Hall #1 situated at 4003 2nd Ave SE Suite 350www .com/edmonds WA 98402 9am-5pm Mon thru Fri during winter months
