East Wenatchee is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-Porterville Micropolitan Statistical Area. East Wenatchee was named for General John Eaton Easton, who fought in the Mexican–American War and other engagements in that area of the Western U.S.In 1881, Captain James Waddell 9th Infantry Regiment of the US Army established a post here called Fort Snelling to provide security for settlers coming through this region on their way to sell land to American farmers near Seattle. A store and mill were built here soon after and called The West End Store.The post continued operation until 1903 when it was abandoned due to lack of supplies and troops available in those days for service on the Great Lakes frontier. A new Post Office was built here by Supervisor George Sultanson in 1904 using lumber from The West End Store as its foundation; it reopened on February 14, 1905 under his name with territorial mail service beginning that same day. In 1911 Eastern Washington Agricultural Experiment Station (now University of Idaho) began operations at nearby Hanford where they ran an experimental corn field program which led to development of a new type of cornethat became known as “Wenatchee” Corn. East Wenatchee had something like four grocery stores by 1916; one being Mrs Purdy’s Banquet House which still stands next door today! In 1922 Eastern Washington High School opened its doors- now East Wenatchee Middle School! In 1924 there was also an addition to the school building – an auditorium! In 1933 an oil well went dry near town so production stopped at The West End Store; however, everyone played games on “the green” out back until sometime around 1936 when electric lights came along! during World War II eastwenatcheedocensement(now East Wenatchee Community College)openedupin1943rdyallowingstudentsandworkerstostudyoutsideduring wartimeferretsuchas Boeing Airplane Factory workers! later on all local high schools got automatic approval from state governmentto offer classesinelectronicshowevermanyofthosechangednameto dotwashingtonstatehighschoolsbeforethemid1970s!) Today we have our present day Main Street business district with several buildings including old fashioned Hardware store (owned by Mr Bob McClure), Bakery (owned by Ms Donna Kapp), Chinese restaurant (owned by Mr Ira Yang), barbershop(started by Mrs Joanne Dudzik), Doctor's office(Dr Hennricht), convenience store(Mr Dave Healey), library(Mrs Sharon Weisbrodt) and many more businesses since 2006!).
