East Wenatchee is a small town in the Yakima Valley of Washington. The population was 7,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA metropolitan statistical area. The first European to visit East Wenatchee wasCaptain James Cook on his third voyage around Asia in 1778. He named the bay and Strait of Juan de Fuca after him. In 1847, gold had been discovered near East Wenatchee by prospectors led by John Wesley Smith. By 1870, East Wenatchee had become an important logging center with mills producing lumber for both Tacoma and Seattle. During World War II, East Wenatchee became a manufacturing center for Boeing Aircraft plants located at Cheney and North End sites. After the war ended, many businesses closed or were sold off; however, a few remain active such as Pacific Northwest Paper Company which still makes paper products from wood chips found in the forested areas around the town site.

Today, East Wenatchee is one of the most vibrant communities in King County - with a rich history that continues to shaping its future
In 1854, the first permanent settler in what is now East Wenatchee was John W. Cooke. In 1862, the US Civil War began and as a result, many settlers left for Oregon. Many of these people still live in East Wenatchee today. The first school in East Wenatchee was built in 1865 by Mrs. Fannie Halsey. The first post office was established at East Wenatchee in 1870. In 1892, the Eastern Washington School District was formed and East Wenatchee became part of it. Today, East Wenatchee is a thriving community with many shops, restaurants, and services available to its residents.
