East Wenatchee is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,776 at the 2010 census. The name "Wenatchee" originated from the Yakutat word wen (water) and tse (trees). In 1958, part of northwest 9th Grade Consolidated Schools District #1 merged into South Sound Intermediate Unit No.#2 which then merged into Central Kitsap Intermediate Unit No.#2 which became Central Kitsap Union High School District No 007 on October 16th 1959 when that district was created from merger of all 7 high schools within South Sound Intermediate Unit NO.(2) On November 17th 1959 when all 7 high schools within SOUTH SOUND INTERNATIONAL UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT were consolidated intoCentral Kitsap Union High SchoolDistrict 007 we established East Wenatchee Middle or JuniorHighSchools which continues operation today under new name “East Wenatchee Jr./Sr.,” . A new elementary school also opened in 1984 called Middlebrook Elementary with grades 6-8 and a junior high school called Hillcrest Jr./Sr becoming available in fall 2006 through a joint venture between Sacred Heart Episcopal Church (Church World Service) and Pacific Lutheran University before being renamed Hillcrest Jr./Sr.-Pacific Lutheran University . According to 2000 U.S Census data, there are 5 unincorporated areas located within eastern Wenatchee: Anacortes Junction; Asotin; Bandon Beach; Cedar Point; Comox Valley ; Crescent City : total population unknown but estimated at about 10 people who live thereabouts primarily subsistence farming activities supplemented by some trapping/fishing operations nearby plus access to power grid thru transmission line running thru corridor belongingto Puget Sound Energy Company

In 1854, the U.S. territorial government of Washington Territory was created and included the present-day East Wenatchee area. The land east of the Kootenai River had been claimed by Russia as part of the Treaty of Tordesillas in 1542, but it wasn't colonized until after American Independence in 1776. The first permanent residents in what is now East Wenatchee were white fur traders from the Yukon Territory. They began to arrive in 1855 and started clearing land for farming and trading with Native Americans. By 1860, there were about 100 people living east of the Kootenai River. The first settler on this tract was John Stevens, who arrived from Prince Rupert, British Columbia on July 7, 1860. He founded a small cabin at what is now referred to as “Stevens Point” on Mud Creek near today's East Wenatchee High School. Stevens ran a successful business exporting agricultural goods to European markets and became an early leader in lumbering and fishing in the region. In 1865 he married Mary Jane Bowker and they raised six children: four boys (Johnathan, Gideon, Salmon) and two girls (Maria – sister of Isabella Godwin). In 1872 entrepreneur Jens Hansen erected his own sawmill at what is now called “Hansen Lake” on South Fork Big Hole Road northeast of present-day East Wenatchee High School. This important development helped spur growth along South Fork Big Hole Road throughout much of what is nowEast Wenatchee Township (and parts of North Wenatchee Township). By 1870 more than 300 people lived east of the Kootenai River in East Wenatchee Township; including many Russian immigrants who had come to work on Hansen's mill site over winter months when available labor was high elsewhere in North America."
