East Wenatchee is a small town in the U.S. state of Washington, located on the east side of the Wenatchee River. The population was 5,508 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yakima County seat and is bordered by Bend to the north, Maple Leaf to the east, North Bend to the south, and White Salmon to the west. The community started as a Native American village called Wanapumtuk before it was renamed East Wenatchee in 1859 after The People's Republic of China had taken over most of Manchuria from Russia. According to some reports, alcoholism became a problem in East Wenatchee during prohibition years when drinkers could easily obtain alcohol from surrounding villages without having to go too far or buy it from more expensive stores. However, this seems not to have been true for other parts of Yakima County where drinking rates were much higher than average even during prohibition times according to local historian Jim Getchell who also notes that there are no known cases of addiction or liver disease among residents of East Wenatchee during that time period despite high levels of alcohol consumption statewide at that time. Today, East Wenatchee is home to a variety businesses including two banks (one national), three grocery stores (two large and one small), two bars/pubs/nightlife venues (both independently owned), two professional sports teams (the Seahawks and Sounders FC) as well as smaller businesses like a Chinese restaurant and several convenience stores which continue operations because they are supported by local taxes rather than state or federal funds which are typically cut off for these types of businesses once their contracts expire or if they become unprofitable. One popular event held each year in East Wenatchee is Chinook Winds Festival which features cultural performances by various bandshells throughout the course of Saturday night into Sunday morning before culminating with a parade down Main Street early evening on Sunday which features food stalls from all over Asia along with live music from various artists throughout both days culminated at either Park Place Community Center late afternoon on Sunday where market stalls provide fresh produce for lunchtime service provided by volunteers

In 1912, East Wenatchee organized as a village with a school and two churches (First Methodist and Presbyterian). In 1930, the U.S. Army built Fort Lawton to serve as an artillery battery for troops stationed in north-central Washington during World War II. The fort closed in 1948 and the land it occupied became part of the city of Yakima. In 1984, when Yakima annexed much of east central Washington to form the City of Yakima, East Wenatchee remained an unincorporated rural community within Yakima County only until 2011 when it became part of the new city limits

The site of the original Wenatchee Valley mission, founded in 1839 by Father José de San Juan and Brother Francisco Xavier Chavez, is now a park known as Elkhorn Park. The valley was first inhabited by the Yakama tribe and later by the Pawnees. The Mission of Wenatchee was founded in 1839 on what is now east side of the forks of the Snake River. In 1861, during the American Civil War, General George Custer's army passed through Wenatchee Valley on their way to Battle Of Little Big Horn. A plaque at nearby Mount Strom Thurmond commemorates this event. In 1937, president Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered that all Native Americans be removed from most of Washington state except for those living within traditional tribal boundaries which remained unchanged until 1959 when North Idaho became part of the United States. This led to a large area being zoned for agricultural production and removal began immediately including much of present-day Wenatchee Valley and its environs. Today many buildings from early missionary days remain standing in or near today's Elkhorn Park .
