The first Europeans to visit East Wenatchee were French fur traders in 1792. The town began receiving settlers in 1851, when George Hays laid out a plat for what would eventually become East Wenatchee. The town had its first schoolhouse and grocery store in 1854. In 1876, a post office was established at East Wenatchee and it continued to serve until 1959. In 1909, an irrigation ditch was completed through East Wenatchee and it became one of the few areas in Yakima Valley where irrigation was used for agriculture rather than pasturing sheep and cattle. Today, dairy farming remains an important aspect of community life; about 60% of all agricultural production takes place here. A mainstay of local economy since independence from British Columbia was logging; trees were felled here for lumber until 1963 when mills closed due to competition from cheaper imports from China and other countries. With new technology developed during World War II, however, logging resumed as part of eastside development during the postwar period until it ended with the mill closures around 1990s. Nowadays many businesses based eastside include catering (especially Chinese), government services (including social services), trucking/logging services, recreational vehicle manufacturing/repair/maintenance etc., as well as light industrial production such as construction materials and plastics products which generate significant jobs within eastern Wenatchee while reducing environmental impact The history behind this tiny but bustling community can be traced back to early settler descendants who arrived primarily because land near their farmsteads abounded with timber including white pine, Douglas fir, cedar-lime Fir AND much more! From scratch they erected log cabins & barns- each with its own firewood patch! Butchery also took place hereabouts so folks supplemented their diet with game catch & deer hunting trips downriver – big days indeed! Yes folks these days still enjoy good old fashioned country living w music blasting from bedroom windows 🙂 From there things grew slowly but surely as families started trading goods w family friends afar & yes Steamboats transported logs upriver often making crossings over on mighty ‘Lilies’

Thisgunlight used two small mercury vapor lamps to project a bright white light into the air. It was very successful, and soon replaced most other types of gun lights on battlefields around the world

The town was founded on the site of present-day Wenatchee and named for Colonel John Wenatchee, a United States Army officer who served in the Mexican-American War. The first store in East Wenatchee opened in 1854. In 1886, East Wenatchee became part of east Tacoma, Washington.
