They reached eastern Oregon on July 12 that year while exploring what would become Washington Territory. On November 8, 1805 they arrived at Fort Hall after crossing Stanley Pass into British Columbia for supplies and reconnaissance purposes only to find it abandoned due to Indian raids over the previous two years. In 1806, John Clements pushed an expedition up Snake River Canyon from Walla Walla throughpresent-day Idaho and present-day Oregon before finally reaching east coast Puget Sound near Olympia on December 17th. At Fort Astoria he discovered abundant salmon spawning grounds which led tothe naming by George Vancouver for this point along his first attempt to chart a course for Asia across North America eastwards from Russia via Point De la Plata on September 27th (also known as Discovery Island). In October 1807 Lieutenant John Stevens departedFort Astoria with HMS Beagle under Captains James Cook and Nathaniel Banks in search of Terra Nova or Australia but never reached land due to bad weather conditions including extreme cold weather on January 14th 1788 when they sighted Cape Disappointment off Cape Mendocino California after rounding point South Head lighthouse about N 90 degrees W 79 degrees W (now part of Shelter Rock State Park) On May 5th1808 Captain John Cushing with USS Constitution under Commodore William Eustis sailed past Tullamarine Strait onto Juan de Fuca Plateau where they discovered Nugget Reef before sailing downwind again on July 2nd discoverying Swinomish Bay about NW 112 degreesW 136 degreesW (Now part of Mount Baker National Forest) On March 21st1809 Commodore Perry set out from San Francisco California bound for Japan via Portland Harbor but lost way en route off Alaskan Peninsula then made landfall near Kingman Arizona just northwestof Williams Lake AIVDQYGKM DT
