The area around town has several parks including Eastlake Park which provides open space for physical activity as well as cultural events; main thoroughfares include Snohomish Boulevard east to Everett Street and north to Yakima Avenue; downtown is served by Second Street South from Yakima Avenue northeast to State Street; skating rinks are available on property along First Street North from Yakima Avenue east to State Street; Androscoggin Bay forms most of eastern boundary with Wenatchee proper while Stevens Creek empties into Androscoggin Bay just southwest of Wenatchee limits

During World War II, many people from East Wenatchee served in the military or worked at Boeing plants in Spokane and Seattle. Some residents also developed businesses in the town such as a grocery store and flour mill. After the war ended, people slowly started to move out of town until only a few remained by 1980. Today, most residents are retirees or workers who commute to jobs in Yakima County or Spokane. Many small businesses remain open including two churches and a library which were both founded during this time period as well as several farms that still produce crops and raise livestock today.
The town of Wenatchee was founded in 1854 by the General Store and post office, which were both located on the current site of the Wenatchee Shrine. The first settler in Wenatchee was Nathan Wright, who arrived in 1855. In 1861, the town received its charter from Territorial Governor George Armstrong Custer. The town grew quickly due to its location and boom in agriculture. By 1890, Wenatchee had a population of 1,200 people and was involved in many businesses including lumbering, farming and shipping. In 1906, the Wanapum Dam was completed and changed the course of watercourse for much of central Washington. As a result, Wenatchee lost much agricultural land to development. However, it continued to grow economically until World War II when it experienced a decline because of wartime-related unemployment. After World War II, Wenatchee experienced growth as a bedroom community for Seattleites with new housing developments built near Lake Washington (the city's water supply). However, recent trends have shown that Wenatchee is again experiencing growth as an affordable place to live and work
