In 1923, the first firearms licensing law in Washington was passed. The law required any person who possessed a handgun within the state to have a license and pay an annual fee. In 1949, the legislature enacted a ban on possession of handguns by felons and those convicted of misdemeanors. In 1959, the legislature passed a bill that made it illegal to possess any firearm not registered with the state police. The Gun Owners Action League (GOAL) was founded in Wenatchee in 1978. The current name comes from its location on the east side of Lake Wanaka which forms its border with nearby Tacoma. In recent years, East Wenatchee has seen some growth due to its proximity to Interstate 5 and various businesses that support the local economy. Its primary industries include retail sales (especially within the larger shopping centers along I-5), health care services (including healthcare clinics operated by Kaiser Permanente), manufacturing (particularly aluminum products), and agriculture (particularly corn production).

East Wenatchee (sometimes spelled East Wenatchee and sometimes called Eastville) is a town in Yakima County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Spokane, WA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The land that makes up East Wenatchee was first settled by people from eastern England in 1848. The towns of Yakima and Wenatchee were respectively founded in 1907 and 1909, but it wasn't until 1912 when the two towns merged to form East Wenatchee. At that time, most of what now makes up the town was still rural farmland. The first post office in East Wenatchee opened on December 17, 1912. The name of the town was changed to honor Rear Admiral George Alyn Hillyard who served as Commandant of Naval Academy School at Annapolis during World War I. In 1933, the Post Office moved from its original location on Main Street to a new facility on First Avenue just east of US-2. This building still stands today and is used as a public library. During World War II, much of what made upeast Wenatchee became an Army airbase known as "Wenatchee Field". After the war ended, many businesses left eastwenatcheee and began moving into other parts of Yakima County such as Leavenworth or Nampa which had more developed economies than eastern Wenatchee did at that time. However, some businesses like J&R's grocery store continued to operate until they closed their doors in 1990 due to competition from Safeway stores near Leavenworth Airport which had become more prevalent during this time period. In recent years there has been an increasing trend towards development in eastwenatcheee with several new high schools being built along with multiple housing developments popping up around downtown area giving residents plenty of options for living close to work or school without having to leave their homes altogether
East Wenatchee, Washington was founded in 1854 by the Stevens brothers. The town was named for General John Stevens, who served as the United States Ambassador to Russia from 1853-1855. In 1875, East Wenatchee became a city.
