The order exempted only those cities that were loyal to Missouri or that were under military occupation at that time (eastern Iowa was not part of any war zone). A group led by John Fenton started an unsuccessful campaign to have Des Moines become county seat in 1865 because they felt that Chicago would be more likely to accept an unincorporated community located near Kinnickinnic Lake as their new county seat given its importance as a transportation hub for agricultural production around Kinnickinnic Falls and its location contiguous with Hennepin Township on Minnesota's border

Des Moines, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 12,811 at the 2010 census. The Des Moines post office has been in operation since 1872. The town takes its name from the Iowa River which flows through it. The first permanent settler in what is now Des Moines was Augustus Hodge and his family who arrived in 1854. Other early settlers were John Winter and Jacob Cooksey. In 1856, George Stephenson built the first railroad line between Seattle and Portland on the east side of the river. This made Des Moines an important hub for trade and transportation during this time period. A large grain elevator was built in 1911 to store flour and other agricultural products from various farms near by. In 1916, Des Moines joined King County as a single county with a consolidated government structure under the name of Washtenaw County (later renamed Kent County). At that time it had a population of 19,717 people total including Unincorporated Areas within its boundaries (the so-called "Allatoona" area). However, by 1920 Census there were only 11,542 people living within the limits of present-day Des Moines proper while Allatoona counted 5,754 residents! Consequently by 1930 all but 2% of present dayDes Moines residents lived within Allatoona's boundaries! A new high school was built on Main Street in downtown Des Moines in 1923 which served as the nucleus for many later businesses including several law firms along with churches and jails until 1984 when they were moved to neighboring West Valley City due tofunding limitations unique to that community at that time! Governor Roy Bean signed legislation onto statute books November 3rd 1928 creating Washtenaw Township south of I-5 just north of Veterans Memorial Coliseum then annexing East Bellevue Avenue Continuing south from I-5 became Dexter Township on January 1st 1929; finally Wadena Township annexed East Bellevue Avenue May 15th 1959 becoming one with WashtenawCounty providing all services necessary for both townships including: civil service offices; fire protection; township elections; water supply; highway maintenance; land assessment/ Surveyor General responsibility etc.; throughout these years annexation forms were made available without prior announcement or vote by either township board members
