Des Moines is a city in the U.S. state of Iowa and the county seat of Polk County. The population was 17,526 at the 2010 census. Ames became the third capital when Iowa Territory was merged into the newly created State of Iowa on January 1, 1857. The city's name reverted to "Des Moines" until 1968 when it changed again to "Iowa City". On December 12, 1893, during the Waco Siege of Fort Worth by Texas Rangers under Major Robert Ewell Ford, ringleader Elijah Craig tried unsuccessfully to purchase dynamite from local mine owner John Davenport for use in his attempted assassination of President Grover Cleveland that same day; detonated an explosive charge prematurely instead near Davenport's home that damaged property but no lives were injured. This event helped bring about anti-corruption laws being passed throughout America due to public outrage over such events occurring within our increasingly corrupt legal system at the time (see also Omaha Riot). The city has experienced rapid growth since then; according to The Daily Herald's 2000 Comprehensive Survey of Population Growth & Housing Development (PDF), “It’s still growing rapidly – more than double what it did 25 years ago! And many people here say they don’t understand how this happened or why things are changing so quickly just because economic development goes along with it." Today's DesMoines is built on early pioneer activity - including mercantile shipping、railroad construction、grist milling、and agricultural production dating back centuries All these activities created valuable resources which have been essential for foundation stone laying for today’s buildings like Macalester College and Drake University

Des Moines, Washington is located in the south-central region of the United States. It was originally founded by French traders in 1853 as Des Moines de la Lakota. In 1855, a post office called Sioux City was established in what is now Sioux Rapids Township. The following year, the city incorporated as a town. In 1859, a railroad was completed between Sioux City and Omaha and quickly became one of the most important transportation corridors in America. By the early 1920s, Des Moines had become one of the largest cities in America with over 100,000 residents. During World War II, Des Moines played an important role as a major military installation due to its location on Route 66 which served as a supply route for troops coming into battle during the war. Today, Des Moines remains a popular tourist destination with attractions such as downtown alleyways filled with art galleries and restaurants throughout theowntown area
The first settlement in what is now Des Moines, Washington was made in 1834 by John A. Dickson and James H. White. The area that became Des Moines was part of the Whitman County government until it was organized as a town in 1865. The town changed its name to Des Moines in 1887 because of the flooding of the Iowa River that year. In 1911, Des Moines amalgamated with neighboring cities Waterloo and Ottumwa to form the city of Ames. The city's population swelled during World War I due to the influx of servicemen and their families, and growth stopped after the war ended. However, during the 1960s and 1970s, Des Moines experienced a period of rapid growth which saw it become one of America's most populous cities.
