In 1854, after gold was discovered in Oregon, settlers began moving into this area and soon there were many holster businesses operating in town. By 1870, most of the business had been left behind when Covington became a railroad town. However, some of these holster businesses still remain in operation today and continue to provide quality holsters for customers around the region. One of the earliest holster businesses in Covington was Folsom & Sons who operated from 1857-1859. This company was started by two brothers named Folsom and their father John Folsom. The brothers were originally from New York City and decided to move to Oregon because they saw an opportunity for a business here. They opened up a Holster Shop at 4th and Indian Streets in downtown Covington which functioned as both their home office and store. From here, they sold holsters made by other local companies as well as imported products such as pistols and rifles. In 1861, another Holster Shop opened up on 5th Street called Topo Gunsmithing & Pistol Shops (later known as Slade & Company). Topo Gunsmithing was started by three friends named Augustus Slade, Solomon Slade, and Daniel Webster Aiken who all worked together at various local shops before starting Topo Gunsmithing. At first, Topo Gunsmithing only sold handguns but eventually grew into selling rifle parts too! In 1865, Topo Gunsmithing moved out of town onto 8th Avenue where they continued to operate until 1955! In addition to their handgun sales activity however, Augustus Slade also ran an ammunition store on 7th Street which continued until 1979! It is interesting to note that even though Topo Gunsmithing closed down completely during prohibition era (1937-1945), their legacy continues on through numerous current iterations of this business! In 1875-1876 another Holster Shop open up on 6th Street called The Arsenal Armory which functioned primarily as a place for locals to buy firearms then sell them back home or give them away to friends/family members. This shop actually predates topogunsmithing by about four years! The Arsenal Armory was started by two businessmen named Hiram Maxim who owned several stores throughout Oregon before opening up his own shop here in 1875. From here he started selling handguns along with rifles including models such as the Winchester Model 1873 (.30 caliber) and Colt’s Model 1903 Springfield (.380 caliber). Finally in 1898 another Holster Shop opened up on 3rd Street called Bailey’s Firearms which operated until 1957! Interestingly enough although Bailey’s Firearms closed down shortly after it reopened due to lack of customer demand however its legacy still lives on through its current iteration located at 905 N Main Street! All these different holster businesses had one common goal – providing qualityHolsters that would protect citizens from harm while keeping their firearms safe!

By 1870, pistol holsters had become popular among law enforcement agencies around America as they prevented accidents and injuries caused by empty or incorrect pockets full of pistols. Holster manufacturers became very business-oriented and produced fashionable designs that appealed to both men and women. Many holster designers wore their handiwork on social occasions such as balls and picnics where someone's firearm might be left unattended for a brief period of time while they enjoyed a leisurely meal or dance outside. The tiny community was founded in 1868 as Covington on the east side of Covington Creek. In 1906 it became the annexe to nearby SeaTac and grew rapidly with its large military base (later Naval Air Station) and heavy industry until it had a population of 3,000 in 1940. After World War II it lost its military significance but experienced rapid growth as an agricultural center due to irrigation from Covington Creek. Prominent citizens have included Everett Dirksen, Jesse Helms, and Jay Leno. In recent years much of the town's economy has been tied to Boeing’s 777 factory which employs about 350 people. The town also has a high school and two churches

Covington is a small town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salem–Keizer Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded by John Covington in 1852 as a stagecoach stop on the route between Salem and Portland. In 1890, it became the county seat of Washington County. The first courthouse in Covington was built in 1903 and served until 1955 when it burned down. A new courthouse was built in 1961 and still serves as its current home. In 1932, Covington became one of five townships within Washington County that were designated as rural development areas to help promote agricultural production within their boundaries. This designation allowed for more property subdivision and growth within its boundaries than had been possible without this designation. Today, Covington remains an important cultural center for the surrounding area with several restaurants, three banks, two churches, and a variety of businesses including a post office and telephone company
The Covington, Washington community was formed in 1854 when the town of Covington and the surrounding area were purchased from the Spokane Indian tribe. The town developed into a small farming community which served as a stop on the wagon train route between Spokane and Seattle. In 1872, the town incorporated and began to grow rapidly due to its location close to railroad tracks and access to water resources. By 1910, Covington had reached its peak population with over 1,500 residents. However, during World War I, the town experienced significant destruction due to artillery fire from British forces. The population decreased following the war and ceased to exist by 1920.
