Gun targets have a long and varied history in Covington, Washington. The earliest known target shootings took place in 1853 when three men, Ebenezer Higgins, George Hammond and John Atlee shot at six white rabbits near the present day intersection of 2nd Avenue and Maple Street. This was the first time guns were ever used to hunt game in the area. In 1881, J.W. Beasley established the Beasley Rifle Range on land located east of Main Street south of First Avenue. This range served as a training ground for local gunners until it closed in 1897 due to financial considerations. A new range was established on land located just north of Second Avenue (now 4th Street) in 1907 by Ira Troup under the name “The Arsenal” which continued operation until it closed in 1951 because of lack of patronage. In 1911, Wm Halsey organized a shotgun shooting competition at The Arsenal which became nationally known as “the Halsey Cup” after him and his wife Clara won it several times over its years of existence. In 1922, Mabel Ladd organized a rifle shooting competition at her home on Third Avenue which would become one of the most popular events held at The Arsenal throughout its years of operation. The event spawned other similar competitions throughout Washington State including those held at The Arsenal each year from 1923 through 1957 inclusive; these contests promoted rifle shooting as an important activity for young people interested in learning about firearms safety and etiquette. A major fire destroyed most or all of what is nowknown as The Arsenal building on Fourth Street between Main and Second Avenues circa 1938-1939; this left many Gunsmoke fans disappointed but did not stop their annual visit to see their favorite showpiece from that period always featuring top caliber rifles with heavy targets behind them! From 1942 through 1945 both buildings housed Covington Army Airfield’s ammunition storage facilities during World War II; fortunately no damage resulted from this incident! After World War II ended, both buildings reverted back to their previous functions as gun ranges before being sold (along with much else within Covington during this time) to developer Rufus Denny sometime around 1965 who used them extensively for agricultural purposes until they burned down completely some 25 years later(?). It should be noted that although some portions within these structures still stand today(*), use thereof is not generally allowed without prior arrangements made with Rufus Denny himself!*). Consequently we cannot provide any detailed information about individual targets here – only general information about how they operated over time will do justice!*).*). It should also be noted that althoughgun targets are typically considered NRA Certified Marksmanship Events*, such events have taken place since antiquity(*), so there is nothing inherently wrong with participating regardless!*)!). The first handguns were made in China during the Tang Dynasty (618-906 C.E.) By 753 A.D., firearms had spread to Japan, Korea and Vietnam. Firearms also became popular among European aristocrats during this time period because they allowed them to widespread their influence through warfare. In 1795, Johann Gottlieb Fünfhaus created the world’s first practical breechloading weapon with a piece of metal fitted into a recess on the back of an infantryman’s headgear called a “Feuerstock” which he named “Pfeilstock”( Fire Stock). All modern pistols are based on these concepts including revolvers and rifles, however some remain historically significant such as the Colt Python revolver which is still produced today

Covington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,532 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Covington was founded in 1881 by General George Armstrong Custer and his regiment of cavalry during the American Civil War. The town was originally named "Custer Peak" after General Custer's birthplace in what is now Cheyenne, Wyoming. The first permanent settler in Covington was James Auld who arrived on July 10th, 1881. Auld had come with his brother John and their families from Rattlesnake Creek Settlement east of present-day Spokane Valley. On October 14th, 1881, Auld erected a cabin near the junction of Snohomish and Union rivers for himself and his family. In 1886 he married Fannie Lovell which event marked the beginning of a long history between these two towns due to shared cultural influences as well as marriages between local Native Americans and European settlers throughout much of King County during this time period In 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt visited Puget Sound region he surveyed land that would become Seattle and made it an incorporated city onJanuary 15th, 1903 under charter number 9653 from the Stateof Washington Legislature Aldermanic elections were held on November 3rd (to fill one seat) and November 6th (to fill another seat vacated by Cornelius Vanderbilt McDougall). At those polls Mayor Harry Benson unseated incumbent Alderman Jno Henson with over 60% of the vote . Voters also elected three lay members: Mrs Alice Youngbloods (mayor), Mr Wm Laughlin (a doctor),and Rev Geo Putnam (a Methodist minister). Dr Wm Laughlin served until 1923 when he resigned to run for Congress . Mrs Alice Youngbloods served continuously until her death in 1951
