In 1911, he opened a store called The Rifle Store on First Street. The store had a long history of selling guns and ammunition to residents of Centralia and surrounding areas. In 1923, Fred Kapp developed what is now known as Kapp's Brewery on Second Street in Centralia. He started brewing beer for local Consumption Company customers. Kapp's Brewery continued to produce beer until it was closed in 1961. In 1927, Harry Black married Anna Mae (née Purdy) at the Methodist Church on Third Avenue in Centralia. They lived together until her death in 1975. Harry Black continued to live alone until his death in 1984
Centralia, Washington is an unincorporated community in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It lies on the edge of the Centralia Hills region and is located east of Seattle on State Route 906. The first European to visit Centralia was Juan Bautista de Anza in 1792 when he explored the area for his exploration of what would become Washington Territory. The town site was platted in 1853 by John A. Macdonald and named after himself, though there had been previous settlements here including a mission known as Centralia Mission founded by George Vancouver in 1810. In 1870, a school district was created out of part of Tacoma and Centralia Township with a population of 2,500 students; but it closed in 1909 due to lack of funding. In 1916-17 the Centralia School District opened an annex to Tacoma High School that served as the new school for all centralians between Tacoma and Thurston counties until 1949 when Thurston County merged into King County. In 1948-49 three small churches were built near where Interstate 5 crosses over from Puget Sound into King County: First Christian Church (later renamed Northwest Baptist), Second Presbyterian Church (later renamed Westside Presbyterian) and Third Methodist Episcopal Church (later renamed Hope Lutheran). All three churches are still standing today providing worship services today within their original boundaries; First Baptist being located on Main Street across from Green Lake Elementary School and Second Presbyterian being on Eastlake Avenue just west of Interstate 5 Exit 126A/F and Third Methodist EpiscopalChurch being located off Center Road west of I-5 Exit 127A/F - all 3 churches were added to National Register Of Historic Places in 1973 In 1959-60 two small schools were built: Northview Intermediate School which is now Northview Middle School and Southridge Elementary which is now Southridge Jr./Sr High Schools - both schools are still standing today providing educational opportunities for students inside their original boundaries Centralia had a post office from 1907 until 1974 when it moved to Olympia
