Red Dot Sight History in Camas, Washington began in the early 1920s when a man named George H. Lammers set up a small gun shop on Main Street in town. He was the first to sell red dot sights, and his shop remain an important part of the Camas community today. In 1923, Lammers patented and offered for sale a sight that could be used with either pistols or rifles. Called the Lammers Red Dot Sight, this device allowed shooters to see their target without having to look down at their firearm. It quickly became popular and was soon manufactured by many different companies. By 1946, red dot sights had spread throughout America, and they were even being used by military personnel in World War II. In 1957, Surengco introduced its own version of the red dot sight called the Surenco Red Dot Scope which allowed shooters to see their target more easily while using any type of rifle or pistol. The popularity of red dots continued through the years and they are now widely used across America as one of the most common sighting devices available.

Camas is a small town in Washington County, Oregon, United States. The population was 724 at the 2010 census. The community is part of the Portland metropolitan area. Camas lies on the banks of the Willamette River, about southeast of downtown Portland. The town was founded in 1875 by John Kendrick and his brother-in-law Asahel Sargent as an agricultural village near their farmstead in what is now Cottage Grove Township. In 1878, they built a sawmill on the river; this mill remains operational to this day. In 1881, the first store opened in Camas; it was later renamed First National Bank after its founders became majority owners of that institution. In 1907, Camas voters passed a proposition to incorporate as a city and named it after local pioneer Hyrum Sprague Garfield. In 1916, Camas voters passed another proposition to incorporation as a city; this time they designated it for industrial development only and did not name it after any notable local figureheads or civic leaders. This hiatus lasted until 1979 when Camas residents again voted to name their City Hall after Garfield—this time naming it forspraguegarfield@comcastmail dot com (later Comcast). The current City Hall building was constructed in 1984 following an vote by citizens regarding plans by then-Mayor Dick Sawhill to demolish much of the original buildings in order to build new facilities which would include a library and other municipal services more accessible within walking distance of all residents. After years of experience withdemolition projects within limits set by city ordinance (and with help from many volunteers who collected demolition permits), Mayor Sawhill announced his resignation effective December 30th 2009 and reverted back to using originally approved plans which included demolition of most if not all pre-existing structures within walking distance of all residents (the exception being former Mayor's Mansion which still stands). On January 3rd 2010Camas voters defeated an initiative submitted by Dick Sawhill that would have allowed him immediate reapproval/renewal of previously approved demolition plans without prior public consultation or approval from city councilmember Dan Krosnicki/himself!!!

In 1862, Camas became the capital of Washington Territory. In 1881, Camas was renamed for Senator George Wickersham Camus after his death. Today, much of what makes up CAMAS are its scenic hills which offer panoramic views of Puget Sound and adjacent valleys; as well as its many cultural attractions such as two museums (the Lewis-Clark Museum and the Mount Baker Historical Society Museum), three churches (St John's Episcopal Church, First Baptist Church, Methodist Episcopal Church), an agricultural museum (the American History Museum), a community center (the CAMAS Community Center), six schools (Central School District No 1 - grades 3-8; Central School District No 2 - grades 9-12; North Central School District - grades 7-12; Southcentral School District - preK through 4th grade) and five parks (Bryan Park/ playground; Eastside Park/lawn bowling alley; Goodwill Park/multi-purpose field); dozens of businesses have been established within CAMAS boundaries over the years to support local commerce and services.
Camas was founded by George Vancouver in 1792 as a trading post on the Columbia River. After years of growth, Camas became an established town in 1876. The town's population reached 10,000 by 1907 and its government was upgraded to city status in 1912. Camas declined during the Great Depression but regained its stature after World War II as a center for technology and industry. In the late 1960s, Camas began to lose its importance as a commercial center and largely faded into obscurity until recent times when it has seen increasing development attention.
