The target was made of wood and had a hole drilled in it so that someone could shoot at it with a rifle. Gunners from Camas would often take their rifles to the nearby hills and shoot at targets there. In 1892, George Ault erected a metal target for shooting purposes on Table Mountain. Numerous other targets were erected throughout the years until 1934 when Camas Municipal Airport became home to its first airfield which included a hangar for hosting target ranges and an area for practicing bombing runs on dummy planes. In 1951, Camas Municipal Airport became home to Pacific Air Force Station No. 4 which housed two fighter-bombers, four bombers, and twelve gunships used during World War II as part of the United States Army Air Forces Ninth Air Force Midwest Sector Offensive Operations against Nazi Germany. After World War II ended, Camas Municipal Airport was closed and replaced by current airport property which is now known as John F Kennedy International Airport

Camas is a small town in Washington state, United States. The population was 2,001 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wenatchee-King County Metropolitan Statistical Area. Camas is located on the east bank of the Snake River and has a population density of . According to the 2010 census, Camas has a total area of , all land. The name "Camas" comes from Indian word "kaman." The first white settlers in this area were George Stephenson and his family who built their cabin on what is now Main Street in 1847. A post office called Camas was established in 1852, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1922. In 1902, John Wesley Powell set out on an exploring expedition which included maps of present day Washington state that he later published as "A General View Of The Country In Which We Are Living". His party traveled upriver to what is now Yakima Lake before going downriver again to visit what are now Moses Lake and Grays Harbor counties). After reaching Whidbey Island they continued their journey northeast along Puget Sound to Tacoma where they disembarked for supplies at Seattle Bay before continuing their journey back upstream through Elliott Bay to cross into Oregon Territory. In 1883 Congress passed an act entitled "An Act To Encourage Settlement In Northwestern Washington", which provided for allotment of land east of the Cascades in order to promote settlement there by easterners (the first citizens arrived here around 1886). Prior to this time most western Washington had been unoccupied by anyone other than Indians because there were no roads or trails available due to periodic landslides occurring across the mountainsides between these regions. This area includes most of what is now downtown Camas and parts of eastern King County east of Interstate 5 and north of I‐5's route 4 exit — these areas have since been annexed by Seattle proper or other adjacent municipalities such as Renton or Shoreline Parkland
