Camas, Washington is an unincorporated community in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The community was founded in 1876 as a small farming town on the east side of the Wenatchee River. By 1915 Camas had a population of 640 people. In 1932 the post office closed due to lack of mail delivery; however, it continued to be served by local truck drivers until 1977. As of 2010 it had a population of 171 residents living within its borders only; no one lives outside those boundaries. In 1860, Camas was the first town in Washington Territory. The town was founded by pioneers who traveled through the area in search of land to settle. In 1871, Camas became a city and was named for Captain John Camas of the U.S. Infantry Regiment which served in the Mexican-American War.
