Burien is a city in the U.S. state of Washington and the seat of Thurston County. The population was 20,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The land that now Burien was first settled by Native Americans in the 18th century CE. The first European to arrive in what is now Burien was Nicholas Wallis, who landed on Bainbridge Island on November 17, 1792 as part of his exploration of Puget Sound. Wallis named his island "Burien" after his ship, the Discovery, which he sighted while visiting Vancouver Island on October 7, 1792. When Wallis arrived in what is now Burien, it was a small village consisting of about fifty people and three buildings dating back to 1802-1803 when Captain Francis Atcheson founded an ferry service between Bainbridge and Olympia Fields east of present day Burien Ridge Road. Captain Atcheson's Ferry served as a means for transportation between these two towns during the early 1800s before opening up Highway 5 (now Interstate 405) which crossed Burrard Inlet from Olympia Fields east to Bainbridge Island eventually leading to Tacoma where passengers could disembark at Keyport Cove on Bainbridge Island for shipment downriver totlered ashore at Queenstown Point near present day Tacoma Lock & Dam Site #2A in order to be unloaded onto flatboats anchored offshore before being transported across Puget Sound to different parts of British Columbia or Oregon or western markets such as Portland or Victoria BC etc... It wasn't until 1835 that General George Custer's force fought its way through Stevens Pass into what is today’s Spokane Valley after raiding Fort Nez Perce Indian Reservation located within present day Spokane County - this event led directly to settlers moving into what would become Burien including Major John McLoughlin who purchased 640 acres (240 hectares) along with $1,000 cash purchase money from Chief Yakima Tt'a'-kehchihkamah (the “Father Of The Nation”). McLoughlin renamed his new settlement "Burien" after General Custer's encampment just outside modern-day Cheneyville while continuing wagon trade routes connecting this valley with points north and central Washington via Snoqualmie Pass - one important route running through Chelan County today known as I-90 corridor connecting Seattle with Vancouver BC via Canada National Highway 1 just outside modern-day Pullman WA... In 1846 CHS built their first flour mill here; this mill continued production until 1915 when it closed due to lack of demand from farmers throughout Washington State following World War I...Today CHS still manufactures flour here using steam turbines; however much like many other businesses over time they have gone through multiple iterations/modernizations making them less efficient but more profitable overall...BURIEN also boasts one OF THE LARGEST AMOUNTS OF GAS STATIONS IN WASHINGTON STATE! With both industries still active there are numerous businesses that serve both local residents and visitors alike situated all around town center including several major shopping malls as well as several restaurants and bars specifically designed for foodies!

Burien is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,815 at the 2010 census. Burien is located on the eastern edge of the Seattle metropolitan area and is part of the Puget Sound region. It lies just north of the city ofSeattle and south of Redmond. The first people to live in what is now Burien were Native Americans who hunted game and collected shellfish from local bays and rivers. In 1851, John Davenport established an ferry system between Seattle and Tacoma based on his discovery that goods could be transported easily across Puget Sound by boat. This led to development around the ferry terminal area which included parcels of land for businesses such as lumberyards, garment factories, sawmills and other industry heirs during the late 19th century-early 20th century. In 1916, when King County was created from portions of Seattle and Tacoma counties, it included much of what is today Burien including present-day east side streets that run along Lake Washington shoreline until they reach Broadway Street which parallels Interstate 5 (the current border between King County and Seattle). At this point I-5 becomes Harper Pkwy., which circles lake with its northern terminus at CenturyLink Field before continuing northeast to BurkeLakefront Park near downtown Bellevue where it turns northwest again to intersect I-405 just south of Interbay Crossing nears South Lake Union Ferry Terminal (now known as UW Station) before terminating at First Avenue NE in Bellevue. In 1964 burien incorporated as a town with a population growth rate above that for most large U.S towns during that decade according to county records; however annexation by neighboring Redmond followed in 1978 because much acreage within original town boundaries had been developed for housing instead of commercial or agricultural purposes since earlier annexation attempts had not been successful due largely to opposition from residents living within easy driving distance either east or west of downtown Burien except those living on lakeside property next to Interstate 5 or close enough to connect carpooling/bike sharing options with larger cities like Bellevue/Everett etc.. Today about one third if not all Burien residents are suburbanites drawn chiefly because access into larger urban areas has become more difficult over time through increased commuting times as well as high prices for real estate relative to other parts of WA
The Burien area was first settled by the Chinook people in the late 18th century. The first European to see the area was Captain George Vancouver, who sighted a peak on July 8, 1792 while exploring Puget Sound. He named it Mount Vernon after President George Washington's home in Virginia. In 1846, King Klondike Gold Rush fever swept through the region and many of its workers ended up dying from the disease or become stranded on Dawson Island. The discovery of gold led to an influx of settlers and businesses into the Burien area. By 1870, Burien had a population of around 100 people. It remained largely rural until World War II whenBurien began developing as a city. During that time, Burien became one of Seattle's most popular tourist destinations with its architecture and natural surroundings
