The history of scopes in Burien, Washington began with the development of what is now considered the first scope in 1876. The telescope was designed by Obadiah Smith and built for use by Major George Stephenson at his Stephenson Lithographic Company on First Street in downtown Seattle. It was used to study the stars and map out new routes for wagon trains. In 1881, Captain David Silliman, a member of the Seattle City Council, commissioned American-born British astronomer Arthur Edward Hutton to design a new type of astronomical telescope known as an Ektachrome camera. This camera allowed astronomers to image objects up to 500 miles away using only natural light apparent from Earth. In 1892, Dr. Julius Neumann developed a three-inch refractor telescope that became one of the most important telescopes in Washington State. This telescope allowed scientists such as Professor Edwin Hubble to see galaxies far beyond our own Milky Way galaxy and explore the universe more completely than ever before. In 1907, Burien's first high school was founded and it soon became well known for its excellence in education and research opportunities related to astronomy and other scientific disciplines. The city developed strong ties with universities throughout Washington State through collaborations including joint programs between UW–Seattle and University of Puget Sound; joint research projects between UW–Seattle and Mount Stromberg School of Engineering;and professional relationships formed with some of America's top astronomers including John Wheeler (director general at UC Berkeley), Max Born (founder of MIT), James Clerk Maxwell (the inventorof electricity), Julius Neumann (co-inventorof photoelectricity), Edward Lorenz (creatorof modernrandom number theory) and Carl Sagan (founderof Sagan Center for Astronomy at Cornell University). As Burien grew increasingly popular among researchers across many disciplines, interest in optics increased as well. In 1916, Burien residents established their own town council which led to the establishment of several commissions concerned with various aspects of science within town limits - these commissions included studies on urban planning, public health issues, land assessment/distribution/use regulation etcetera. In addition to providing valuable feedback on local policies affecting both science & technology within town boundaries – these committees also helped develop Town Hall into one of the most iconic symbols associated with Burien today!

Burien, Washington is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 21,083 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County and home to Burien Federal Correctional Institution. The first permanent European settlement in what is now King County was established in 1851 when a group of British settlers named themselves the "Cumberland Company". They built a log cabin on the present site of Burien and called it Cumberland Valley. In 1861, local entrepreneur John Wesley Smith founded the town of Burien on land he acquired from the Cumberland Company. The town's name was derived from nearby Mount Olympus, which served as its symbol. The first school in Burien was opened in 1875 by Mrs. Lillian Haggerty and later became known as Seattle Female College (later Seattle University). The first post office was established at Burien in 1880 and continued operation until 1907; it was renamed KING-TV Post Office after owner Katharine Graham changed its name to KING-TV Corporation in 1949. In 1901–1902, burian artist Harry Naito created seven murals entitled "The American Way" for the new State Capitol building; these were destroyed by fire during World War II but have been restored and are currently on display inside that building. In 1907, burian economist Homer Cummings organized an agricultural fair at Whatcom Park to promote agriculture throughout King County; this fair remains one of the most popular events in burian life today. An amusement park called Pioneer Park opened adjacent to what is now Discovery Place Shopping Center in 1924; this park closed down circa 2006 but has been reborn as Pioneer Square with several small businesses located there including Nordstrom Rack & More/Searsucker's seafood store and Hemp Museum USA/Nordstrom's hemp clothing store In 1930, builder Raynold Sawyer developed his plans for what would become SeaTac Airport which included land adjacent to what is now Discovery Place Shopping Center; construction began soon afterward and both airport and shopping center were completed by 1934. Burien is a town in Thurston County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Thurston County. The first European to visit what is now Burien was Captain George Vancouver on his HMS " Discovery" in 1792. He named the bay after Prince Rupert of Armada, who had explored and charted the Puget Sound area in 1789-90 before sailing back to England with his charts and reports during the Seven Years' War. In 1851, Captain John Fife took possession of land north of present-day Burien on which he built a log cabin and started farming. On November 3, 1851, Burien became a town when it was granted incorporation by vote of its citizens. The first post office opened in 1852; it was renamed Burien in 1865 because of an increase in mail traffic from nearby Seattle. In 1907, Seattle annexed much of Thurston County including present day Burien; as part of this annexation process, new streets were laid out and improvements made to existing businesses and residences within the boundaries of Seattle. At that time there were only two stores open in what is now downtown Burien: The First National Bank (now known as Republic) at Seventh Avenue South and Wall Street Northeast and James Hardware & Son (now known as Ace Hardware). These early business owners helped make downtown Burien one of America's most vibrant communities during its early years following annexation into Seattle. In 1915 King County voters passed a $5 million bond issue to provide local services such as water Supply, Housing Authority etc.; this led to the construction not only of roads but also public baths/swimming pools throughout downtown burien – these are still extant today providing essential functions for both residents and tourists alike! A major fire destroyed most buildings within downtown Burien on December 15th 1916; fortunately no lives were lost however significant damage was done to many properties including some historical landmarks.$4 million dollars has been expended since then to rebuild key aspects of Downtown Burr'sen including new parks/grounds/residential towers etc.– all with input from community members! On October 1st 1942 USAAF Eighth Air Force officer Major Curtis LeMay delivered an address at Cheney High School which focused attention on air defense against Japanese bombers over Washington state Capitol building – this event remains oneof history’s more memorable moments! After World War II endedGovernment employment slowed down across Northwest although businesses did continuenard expansion until around 1960 whenburian stopped developing economically due largelytolimited access to credit & labor
