Burien is a town in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of theSeattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Burien was John Wesley Powell in 1885. He named it after his home town of Buffalo, New York. In 1907, a group of ranchers and farmers pooled their resources to purchase 760 acres (291 hectares) of land from the Klickitat Indian Tribe for $10 per acre. They named their new settlement "Burien" after the donation and built a stockade to protect their new land from squatters and Native Americans looking to claim it as theirs. The settlers were successful in farming and growing crops until World War II when they lost most of their land to government giveaway policies. Burien is a small town in Washington state, United States. It is located on the Olympic Peninsula, about 25 miles north of Seattle and 20 miles south of Tacoma. The population was 5,890 at the 2010 census. The first humans to settle in what is now Burien were hunters and gatherers who hunted game and gathered plants and fruits near the present day downtown area. For many years, Burien was known as a scattering point for migrating salmon because it was close to where they took their feed from in upstream valleys. In 1855, pioneer James Waddell founded the community of Deer Lake which he named after his friends Deer Lake on the Canadian side of Puget Sound. Waddell also built extensive roads and houses within Burien limits which became vital for transportation during early days when only horses could be ridden or pulled by wagonloads over difficult terrain. In 1886, John Laidlaw established an agricultural colony at nearby Nisqually Falls with 12 hogs, 10 gardens, 4 cows, 2 horses and 10 acres (6 ha) of land around a falls that would provide water for irrigation purposes. This new settlement proved so successful that Laidlaw decided to expand it into a permanent village by purchasing additional acreage from various growers around Olympia and adding two stores, 3 schools (grades 1-12), a hotel/motels (the first in America), residences for teachers and other workers at his new colony until 1911 when the name was changed to Seattle due to competition from nearby Rainier Valley communities such as Bainbridge Island. A post office called “Nisqually” opened in 1887; however it closed in 1888 because there were no mail carriers available to deliver letters there! In 1902 “Burien” became an official name given by King County commissioners after surveyors visited local farmers who had offered suggestions concerning its pronunciation based on their own farm experiences hereabouts! The opening of Interstate 90 created significant problems for residents living along this route as truck traffic increased exponentially without corresponding increases in passenger service or limited access elsewhere; accordingly some businesses abandoned their locations along I-90 while others prospered despite having to open up shop behind curbside fences! As trucks slowly began traveling eastbound off I-90 onto I-5 traffic began flowing back up I-90 towards Burien again! This trend continued until just before World War II when all lanes were closed off temporarily due to construction projects – leaving Burieans stranded between ramps! Despite these inconveniences sometimes constituents managed somehow to get through despite not knowing how or when they would return home!. After more than 50 years living here primarily as citizens of Seattle via phone bill notification & email alerts my husband retired today @ 8pm we will move out tomorrow morning!!!
