It served until 1857 when it changed its name to Snohomish to avoid confusion with nearby Olympia (then known as Nisqually). In 1862, George Hargrave founded what became Everett University here and named it after his hometown of Everett, England (now London). This university grew rapidly and by 1875 had 24 students; by 1907 it had over 200 students and 10 staff members. After World War I ended in 1918, many veterans returned home from Europe and started a new industry in Boeing aircraft production: airplane manufacturing began here as well - Boeing's precursor to today's aerospace companies In 1923, Burien became an incorporated city when King County annexed it from Snohomish County; this incorporation created important legal milestones that continue to define the town today such as creating its own fire code regulations which still apply today
