Burien, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern shore of Puget Sound and the Burien Peninsula. The first settler in what would become Burien was James Brougham in 1851. He named his new location for British Columbia's then-prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. In 1853 Brougham sold land to Gideon Sperling who built a small cabin and raised chickens there until 1865 when he bought more land and developed it as a community with courthouse, schoolhouse, wagon road and ferry service to Seattle. In 1876 local businessmen William Fenton and David Goodyear organized the first general election in King County as an effort to expand burien's boundaries into present-day Snohomish County; they won all ten of their races but were impeached by county officials over alleged irregularities in their voting practices. They re-organized as the "Goodyear Party" after winning two more elections in 1880 and 1886 which established them as the dominant force within burien politics for much of the 20th century. Their influence waned during World War II but has since resurfaced due to resurgent interest in Pacific Northwest history among some Burien residents who have returned to live there since 9/11/2001 . On October 1st 1907 – just one year after incorporation as a town – Burien voters passed a referendum authorizing annexation by Snohomish County (the vote was 3–1). This made burrien one of Washtenaw County's five townships; it remained so even when Washtenaw became Allegany County in 1912 despite having no voting rights therein. The only other township within Washtenaw at that time was Kenton which had been incorporated earlier that year from part of Perry Township along with Arlington Heights and Auburn Hills (now Dearborn Heights). It wasn't until 1944 that voters finally decided to annex all six townships comprising today's Burien: North Bend, South Bend, Eastlake Village, Central Park West, Northgate (including portions of Central Park South) and Westlake Village collectively known today simply as "Burien". Upon annexation all six villages formed what is now known as The Districts - home to many popular tourist attractions including Discovery Island National Monument & Museum Regional Science Center & Aquarium Ohlone Nation Reserve & Olympic Training Complex - making it difficult for anyone outside of its boundaries to get involved politically or economically unless they were also living inside one or more of those districts themselves which often meant being part of either The Districts or alternatively Tacoma itself.. Despite this obstacle some former residents have continued active politics within The Districts while others have founded their own businesses outside its boundaries such as Northgate Theatre Company which stages plays throughoutKing county every second Saturday OF THE MONTH

Burien, Washington is a small town located in Thurston County, Washington on the border of the King County and Snohomish County boundaries. It is part of theSeattle-Tacoma metropolitan area. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. The first permanent human settlement in what is now Burien was established by Captain George Vancouver on April 20, 1797 when he and his men abandoned their boats at the mouth of Canby Creek in order to explore Puget Sound. They were met by local Native Americans who gave them food and shelter before departing for their own land near Edmonds. The first post office called "Burgundy" was established in 1847, but it remained inactive until 1892 when it was moved to its current location. The name "Burien" originated from an Indian word meaning 'place where salmon run.' In 1901, Burien annexed neighboring Memory Lake which had been part of Yakima Territory since 1855. In 1907, Seattle City Council passed a resolution recognizing that Tacoma would grow rapidly become an important center for commerce if left unchecked and so recommended annexing memory lakes as well as other adjacent townships into Seattle proper. On February 4, 1907, Burien incorporation occurred with 40 residents voting in favor and only six against including Memory Lake which became annexation member #2 On November 3rd 1907 city voters re-elected Mayor George C Woodworth with 71% of the vote over incumbent John Ferguson despite protests from some citizens who felt that annexation would take away their jobs. mayor woodworth commented "I am not going to let Tacoma get too big...We don't want people moving here just because we have more money." This decision helped to create a strong sense of community within city limits which continues today
