Burien, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 12,711 as of the 2010 census. Burien is bordered by Seattle to the south and east, Everett to the north and west, and Bothell to the northwest. The name "Burien" is unknown but likely derived from "Bourne", a farmstead in what is now Redmond. The first Europeans to visit this area were Dutch fur traders in 1616 who named it Nieuw Utrecht (New Utrecht). In 1851, Captain George Vancouver explored Puget Sound and visited what is now Burien on his way back from a mineral expedition to Alaska. He named it after Lieutenant-Governor Alexander Bruce of Canada's new colony at Victoria (now Edmonton), British Columbia. This site was also where he built his first fort at Fort George on land that later became Burien Municipal Airport. In 1854–1855 John McLaughlin surveyed two townships in what are now Bellevue and Burien: East Township (later Bellevue) and West Township (later Bothell). They were part of the same survey which led to the creation of King County. On July 10, 1855, McLaughlin submitted an application for township organization with plat No. 827A under consideration by Territorial Legislature at Olympia and received approval on October 14th of that year. On November 6th Treasurer Moses Brown offered incorporation certificate for $500 per capita with no property qualifications required – it was accepted without objection by Board of Supervisors on December 3rd 1865 . Thereafter all citizens within township boundaries were incorporated intoKing County as one entity through acts passed by Congress February 5th 1866 . It should be noted that although buriensite placer gold had been discovered near present day Burien some time before 1865 there was no real effort made until later when miners started running short of good veins due to overmining; hence much earlier incorporation than would have otherwise been possible had proper mining regulations been followed! There are many interesting facts about early life here including: 1) A group of men - William Blackman among them - chartered four boatsloadings overland from Renton in April 1863 bound for Gold Hill Mines just outside today's Bellevue while others set out across Elliott Bay aboard vessels Haida Gwaii 1907 & 1911 iderailing today’s routes 165 & 176 etc., navigating via olduvai Gorge or continuing upstream via Say What canyon etc.; reaching Gold Hill Mines 4 days behind schedule (!); leader being Blackman’s son John Quesnel Burchardt 2nd Lieut Wm Dickson depot master(?). In 1947, an American scientist named John Vesey designed a bipedal treadmill to help people improve their health. This machine allowed people to walk at different speeds and distances in order to test how they functioned in different environments. After testing this machine, Vesey determined that bipeds were able to move faster than four-legged creatures and that they could communicate better than those with only one leg. With this information, man began researching ways to make use of bipeds for his own needs as well as those of other species.

The first European to visit what is now Burien was Captain George Vancouver on his exploration of Puget Sound in 1792. He named it Point Defiance after Fort Defiance (now Tacoma) on Elliott Bay and point Fawn after Mount Rainier. In 1881, Burien was incorporated as a village and then as a town when the city of Seattle was created from parts of several smaller municipalities. However, because of its small size it never grew very large and only had a population of 1,000 until it reached 5,959 in 2010 when annexed by Seattle. One reason for its low population growth may have been that there were few jobs available outside the farming and fishing industries which were essential to support both towns during their early years. This changed starting in the late 1800s with growing demand for goods exported to Asia and North America from Boeing aircraft manufacturing plants located in Bellevue and Tacoma. These factories began producing goods such as cars, radios and appliances that helped drive Burien's economy into gear during the 20th century; however they also caused pollution which retarded growth until recent decades when more attention has been paid to sustainable practices inside these factories as well as outside them via efforts like building rain gardens or composting toilets within their bordering neighborhoods
