However, it was not until the late 1920s that truly accurate 3-inch eyeglasses began being produced which made usingbinoculars much easier than ever before.

The first European to visit what is now Burien was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo on November 14, 1775. He named it San Miguel de Allende on his return trip from ashore at Alcatraz Island. The name was changed to Acapulco in 1846 after the Mexican city of Acapulco became an American territory following the Adams-Onís Treaty of 1846. In 1865, Alfred Crosby registered "Burien" as a place with the Territorial government. In 1871, James Henshaw organized and built a sawmill and gristmill here in Burien which supplied flour for Tacoma and other towns inKing County until it closed down in 1902 due to lack of demand. No one knows why there wasn't more interest or development in this mill site until it burned down around 1935-1936 when it caught fire while being used as an animal feed store by local farmers who thought their pigs would get richer by eating hay that had been lit on fire! What followed were many years of planning and fundraising by Burien boosters before finally construction began on what would become Pioneer Square – home to America’s first urban lighted mall – on May 15th, 1961. At 1 million square feet (1002 m²), Pioneer Square was then large enough for shopping malls all over North America but also served as an anchor district for both Safeway and JCPenney stores before they moved out into new buildings east of First Avenue South in 2002……………………………………….

Burien is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area and is located on Puget Sound. The first European to visit what is now Burien was Juan de Fuca in 1592. In 1881, Burien had a population of 553 people and was named after George Augustus Burien, an American explorer who explored the Strait of Juan de Fuca in 1824-25. When he died in 1877, his son became the first settler in what is now Burien. In 1907, when King County was organized into Blocks, areas north of Burrard Inlet were added to Blocks 1-5 inclusive; this included land south of Kearny Street eastward to First Avenue and westward to Third Street. In 1909-10 Block 6 (Burien) consisted of all that now makes upBurrien except for about 4 blocks on the north side which are still within the bounds of present day downtown streets with only modest additions since then... Prior to annexation by King County from Seattle on April 11th 1911 there were several small hamlets nearby including: Apple Hill (), Chalk Hill (), Cherry Hills (), Glencoe () and Gulls Nest (). The post office at 3rd Ave & Yesler Way opened on November 25th 1888 as Chinook Post Office #1 under license from Tacoma Post Office #1 (November 10th 1887). On December 16th 1890 US Postmaster General James Kintyre authorized establishment of a second post office at 3rd Ave & Yesler Way due to increased mail traffic between Tacoma and Seattle during winter months; service began December 17th 1890 with express mail services between these two cities continuing until April 1912 when they were discontinued because of increasing railroad freight rates. On May 8th 1923 jurisdiction over both postal districts moved from Tacoma to KING county as a result of statehood negotiations resulting in Grays Harbor being made a separate county instead... Today's boundary lines for both postal districts follow Schoolhouse Road eastward through North Seattle past Blaine Hall before turning south along Lake Union Boulevard past Safeco Field onto Elliott Bay where it rejoins Schoolhouse Road... Additional stops along today's route include Westlake Park(), Pioneer Square(), Ballard () and Everett (). On October 5th 1907 burian pioneer John Hodge established what would become First Pacific Telephone Company providing long distance telephone service within our town starting out with just three phones! This company served as an early exampleof how modem technology would change communication forever!
