One important development during this time came when Seattle acquired title to most of what is now King County from Vancouver Island's British government following a final treaty signed on July 25th, 1851 – marking an event which has come to be known as “the opening of Puget Sound”. In 1905 local citizens adopted a resolution calling for annexation into the city of Seattle; however, this idea never got off the ground due to lack of support from then-Mayor George Morrison and City Councilmember Hiram Sibley (later Mayor Byron White). In 1907 burian voters approved incorporation as a village; however local officials decided not to pursue annexation because they felt that such action would erode community autonomy within its borders – instead remaining part of King County through several annexations over ensuing decades!
