Burien is the home of the Washington Arsenal, one of the largest and most important gunpowder plants in the United States. The Arsenal produced ammunition for both American and British artillery from 1798 until it closed in 1892. Ammunition production at Washington Arsenal was a major factor in helping to keep America safe during the Revolutionary War and during World War II. The early history of ammunition production in Burien can be traced back to 1798 when Lt. Colonel George Mason began producing munitions at his arsenal on Southwest Sixth Street. At that time, WashingtonArsenal was located on land leased from Juan de Fuca County. In 1802, Major John Armstrong became responsible for operating WashingtonArsenal and started manufacturing projectiles and shot-guns. In 1828, Captain Samuel Gibbs became acting superintendent of WashingtonArsenal while Captain John Armstrong served as its first superintendent. By 1830,WashingtonArsenal had become one of the leading powder plants in the country due to its large output of Shot guns, Cannonballs, Powder Balls, Gunflints (a type of lead bullet), Compounds (ammunition made up of different types of explosives) and Rockets (fireworks). Ammunition production continued to grow at WashingtonArsenal until 1892 when it closed down due to restrictions placed by Congress on firearm manufacture following the American Civil War. However, some elements within American Armory industry continue today as part of Sturm Ruger Ammunition Corporation with operations located in Rancho Santa Margarita California as well as Newington Castle Connecticut

Burien is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 531 at the 2010 census. It has been the county seat of King County since 1907. The first European to visit what is now Burien was Captain George Vancouver in 1792 when he explored and charted the Strait of Juan de Fuca. He named it Cape Disappointment because he could not find a better spot for his ship to anchor. The first permanent settler in what is now Burien was James Cowlitz in 1851. The town site was laid out by Capt. George Vancouver on Apr 21, 1851 as part of his survey of Puget Sound area as part of His Majesty's colony of British Columbia. Mr Cowlitz established a ferry service from nearby Olympia toSeattle and vice versa until1885 when Puget Sound Bridge was built across the Strait connecting Seattle with Tacoma making Burrard Inlet obsolete as the only crossing point between neighborhoods within Seattle). At first, Burien consisted largely of fishermen and their boats that transported seafood from the Salish Sea to local markets around Puget Sound. However, various businesses began doing brisk business after World War II due to military housing developments along Center Way SE which increased traffic on I-5 and created new employment opportunities for locals during wartime shortages elsewhere in the Northwest regionalfrom Boeing plants at Everett and Renton down through logging operations near Moses Lake into agriculture on adjacent rural land eastward into Snohomish County (Today’s Shoreline) . In 1957 Burien had a population increase when Japanese immigrants moved there from Japan following World War II; they founded Japan American Community Services Society (JACSS) an affiliate organization today known as JACSWA which provides social services such as health care, daycare, food stamps and rent assistance to Japanese Americans living in Western Washington In recent yearsBurien has experienced growth through annexations by neighboring towns such as North Bend which annexed much of Hullabaloo after North Bend voters voted overwhelmingly against annexation in 2006 but also by welcomed annexations by Shipshewa Valley that took over most parts of Yelm following successful annexation campaigns by residents there

Ammunition has been throughout history an important part of military culture and society.

Burien is a town in Kittitas County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,856 at the 2010 census. It is the only incorporated town in Kittitas County. Burien was founded in 1881 by Captain John C. Fremont and his wife Catharine as a small trading post on the Yakima River. The first store and post office were built there in 1885. The townsite was laid out by Captain Fremont and his assistants James Purdy and George Stephenson on July 6, 1881, after they had completed surveys for the new town site east of present-day Burien on the Yakima River. The original name of thetown--Kittitas--was changed to Burien on November 3, 1886 when it became apparent that someone had mistakenly spelled "yakim" with an "e". Burien quickly became known as one of Washington's most lively small towns due to its constantly growing population of farmers and their families who supplemented their incomes by fishing, hunting, retail trade, farming or logging activities along the Yakima River valley. In addition to its rich agricultural history dating back over 120 years (the first time that potatoes were grown in Kittitas County), Burien has several historic buildings including two buildings from 1907 which are now used as museum exhibits: One is a three-story log cabin with attached garage and farm equipment shed built by Captains Fremont and Purdy; The other is a two-story clapboard building from 1909 which served as both Burien's first Post Office (1885) and First Store (1885). The area around today's downtown Burien was originally part of what was called White Butte Township but it was annexed into Kittitas County on February 14, 1912 following a referendum vote by all residents of White Butte Township except for those living within 1/2 mile of Kittitas Creek where they continued to vote in separate referendums. On October 15th 1920 however another referendum resulted in the annexation of portions of White Butte Township east of I-5 into Burien after attempts by local politicians to block it failed during regular legislative sessions at that time because no money could be raised from property taxes within that township boundaries alone! In 1935 Burmaen voters passed an ordinance allowing women voters to participate effectively ending residence restrictions still existing at that time upon male voters within either township limits! In 1940 Burmaen residents successfully petitioned for cityhood status which finally came about on May 2nd 1944 when City Council voted 5-0 in favor granting city charter rights effective June 1st! City Council then renamed themselves 'Burien City Hall' upon becoming operational! Today much like its namesake - vibrant buriean life takes place throughout downtown every day - serving up fresh local produce Downtown courtesy of our very own Farmer’s Market each Saturday morning since 1978!
