Bremerton is a small town in the Washington state city of Seattle. It is located on the Puget Sound, about 20 miles north of downtown Seattle and 10 miles south of Bellevue. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. The Bremerton area was first settled by farmers in 1851. The town was founded on February 28, 1907 by George W. Bremer and his wife Anna Prentice Bremer as a result of a joint challenge by their parents to build the first town in King County. The name "Bremerton" was chosen because it sounded like "breaching" or "breaching out." In 1912, the city bought land from the farm owners and laid out streets and buildings. The growth of Bremerton led to its annexation bySeattle in 1916; however, annexation did not mean that Bremerton had lost its identity as an independent town. In fact, many residents still lived in their homes until after Seattle annexed them because they were not happy with being part of what they perceived as a new city without any traditional values or customs. In 1924, whenKing County became an unified county with multiple cities and towns within it,Bremerton chose to remain separate again and continued to operate under its own government even though it now belonged to Seattle. The early years of World War II were very difficult for Bremerton as steel production stopped nationally due to shortages caused by war effort overseas; nevertheless, many businesses continued operations despite this difficulty including grocery stores, flour mills and shipyards which helped support local families during wartime times. After the war ended, much unemployment followed which contributed to some social unrest among people who felt that they had been displaced from their former jobs while others saw this time as a chance for opportunity that should be taken advantage of rather than wasted through political correctness stances taken by newcomers who did not understand local culture or traditions dating back more than 100 years! In 1970-71 voters passed a referendum asking if they want annexations from other municipalities (King City & Auburn) but these requests were denied because no one wanted to leave their current municipality which had been growing steadily since before annexation ever took place! In 1984-85 there was another referendum asking if we want annexations from Kent (which also resulted in no response) so again pressure started building up amongst community members once again wanting something done! On July 8th 1985 Mayor John Deasy announced that annexations would be granted only if all taxes within our municipality were raised 25%. This included increases in property tax rates but also sales tax rates which increased 5%. This increase allowed us to keep our current government structure although at just $3 per capita instead of $10 per capita! Many people feel that higher taxes are what made us successful when compared against other nearby municipalities such as Kent which has begat more than 60% suburban growth over 35 years!!! Today Bremerton is home to over 1 thousand residents including 400 families residing inside our borders!! Our economy continues to grow with new businesses opening up every day!! We continue striving towards becoming one of “the great places” according to Forbes Magazine!!!!!

He was one of the original settlers on the Kitsap Peninsula and started out farming land he had acquired from his father-in-law. soon after, he opened a general store which quickly gained popularity due to its good prices and wide selection of goods available at the time. The store continued to operate until it closed in 1907 because of financial difficulties caused by prohibition laws that were then still in effect in Washington State. The next year saw another significant milestone for Bremerton as it also saw the opening of its first school - Thomas Jefferson Elementary School! This school would serve asBremerton's main educational institution until 1957 when it was replaced by Pacific Heights Elementary School which remains today asBremerton's most important public education center! In 1911,Bremerton began developing its downtown area which would later become known as "The Village". The Village was named after Mr. Robert Hutton who donated land for it and representedBREMERTON on various civic committees during its early years! Later on, other businesses began opening up within The Village including an insurance company that would remain operational until 1971, a grocery store that operated until 1977, a post office which servedbreemertion until 1976 (it reopened under new management in 2000), an auto body shop that operated until 1984, a restaurant which continues to operate today (the current name is First & Mission), and finally - BREMERTON'S FIRST TOWNHOUSING! This building housed many local businesses before being taken down in 1997 due to budget cuts but has been resurrected several times over since then as part of BREMERTON'S Historic District! Today, Bremerton is home to many popular tourist destinations such as its beaches (especially Olympic Beach), Its historical district filled with interesting buildings dating back to antiquity (!), its vibrant music scene including some well-known amphitheaters throughout Pierce County (including Osoyoos Amphitheater!), its delicious food options both inside and outside the restaurants found throughout The Village (),and much more!!!
