When the first people set foot in what is now Bremerton, Washington they were pleased with their new land. They named their town after the Danish explorer and raider Erik Larsen who had discovered it in 1792. The first settler in Bremerton was Daniel Gifford and his family who arrived in 1821. Over time, more people moved to Bremerton and the town grew rapidly. In 1855,Bremerton became a city and over time it has become one of the most vibrant cities on the Peninsula. Bremerton, Washington is a small town in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,752 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The name "Bremerton" comes from George Bremer (1799-1860), who was born in Germany and immigrated to what is now Kitsap County in 1857. He founded the town on land he purchased from the Choctaw Nation. The first post office was established in 1859. Bremerton grew quickly as a prosperous commercial center with its own school system, churches, and businesses. In 1916 the community became an incorporated city under the name of Tacoma after voters passed a referendum to do so. In 1964 Bremerton adopted its current name when it merged with neighboring unincorporated communities of Unalaska and Kiewit to form Tacoma–Unalaska–Kiewit City. The merger resulted in many plant closings and job losses for the community's many manufacturers before it regained some of its former prosperity through tourism and other businesses over subsequent years

Bremerton is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 18,428 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Kitsap County and one of the most populous cities on the Olympic Peninsula. The Bremerton-Tacoma metropolitan area has a population of 452,857 as of 2018. The first European to visit what is now Bremerton was Juan de Fuca in 1592 after his voyage from Spain across North America. He named it "Nootka" because he could not find any natives there with similar names to those on his Spanish Ships La Conchita and Santa Margarita. The area that would become Bremerton was first settled by Native Americans more than 4,000 years ago according to excavations conducted by archaeologist Don Alan Ladd at Fort Stevens National Monument near present day Tacoma in 1961-1962. At least 12 villages were located along Puget Sound and its tributaries including Nisqually Inlet before contact with Europeans began. Captain George Vancouver explored Puget Sound in 1792 during his third voyage around America and named several localities including Nootka after Brazilian sailors who had visited him while exploring British Columbia waters some two years earlier. On July 14, 1795, Vancouver sailed into what is now Kitsap County and anchored off modern day Bremerton Pier while goods were unloaded from HMS Resolution underwritten by Captain James Cook seven days later – thus beginning regular trade between British Columbia and Asia through the Strait of Juan de Fuca which then connected Named Lands north of Seattle Bay with Alaska’s Yukon Territory via Cape Turnagain Point on Nov 1st 1797…. This route became known as “the Golden Age for Shipping” as goods moving upthrust through this narrow passage generated much wealth for both countries….. By 1840 however many small ports had been built up along Puget Sound shoreline due to overfishing; leading to increased competition for market share from larger Ports such as Seattle…. The commercially important tribe led by Chief Joseph Tawakoni (1763-1835) resisted attempts by white settlers to purchase their land until 1851 when they finally ceded all their territory south of SR 9250 EAST OF WILKESBORO Lake when gold began being discovered near Gold Rush era sites such asmilepost#1b….. After Government Policy changes leaded to increased international activity within Alaskan Territories during early 20th century race riots erupted throughout interior US social order breaking out in Everett WA January 1915 involving thousands people resulting in 5 deaths……disastrous consequences resulted making Dawson City an attractive landing spot for prospectors seeking Klondike Goldfields…… Before World War I occurred energy shortages caused sidewinding boats used primarily for transportation between ships moored at various points along coast becoming unusable………….. During WWI military supplies were transported ashore using ferries plying waters adjacent mouth of Duwamish River causing high water levels inside ship creating dangerous conditions Treasure seekers hampered efforts To Recover artifacts discovered during WWI flood… Navigators determined channels existed available allowing speedy access ashore………………………… In 1925 dredging completed Port Manteaux Expanded wharf extending westward about 300 feet deep beyond original harbor limits creating new commercial harbor facilities............................... By 1930 Wharf contained 3 container terminals 2 dry docks & 2 marine warehouses totaling 26 acres......................... However Queen Elizabeth II Landfill relocated national defense plant here reducing Existing downtown business district size from 100 acres +/- 10% leaving much unused waterfront……………. As recently as 1980s there were plans call for reclamation/demolitionof SFWLFO but no action taken……………..
