The first post office opened in 1853 and served as the town's only center of business until1873 when an depot was built on Main Street. In 1886, a dam was constructed to supply water to the town from Lake Washington which made bothell one of the most developed towns in King County at that time. It prohibitionist movement helped fuel social unrest in Bothell during this time period but by 1903 all alcohol had been repealed and there were no more businesses closed due to prohibitionism than there are now days!In 1916, Dr. George Kuiper moved from Seattle to Bothell after working at Intermountain Hospital where he became head doctor-in-charge of infant care clinics throughout Washington state! He is credited with helping start what would become Seattle Children's hospital! By 1961, when he retired from pediatric practice atSeattle Children's hospital, he had cared for over two million patients!Dr. Kuiper is also responsible for founding many charities including Seattle Voluntary Health Association (SVHA), Sounders Foundation (SF), Rotary Club of Bellevue (RCB) and Whitman Care System (WCS).
