It was named for General George Washington and his army which fought against the British in 1775. The first settler in Bothell was John Cramer who arrived from New York on July 12, 1851. He built a log cabin on the site of present day Bothell High School. The first school in Bothell was opened on September 6,1852 by Methodist missionaries under the name of Bainbridge Hill Academy. The town charterwas granted to Bothell by vote of the townspeople on October 8,1853. During its early years, Bothell relied heavily upon agriculture which included raising cattle and sheep; however, during the late 1800s businesses began to grow such as grocery stores and breweries; this led to increased growth within the community that spilled over into neighboring towns such as Redmond and Kirkland. In 1906, when King County became a unified territory with responsibility for public education it decided to change its name from Crampton toBothell due to growing pubic interest in Agriculture-particularly livestock farming-in that area A new high school building (now known as North High School) was completed in 1915 and served as bothe school district's primary facility until 2000 when South High School opened adjacent to North High School. In 1961BotHEst police department moved from their original location at 7th Avenue South between Everett Street and Paine Road into their present building located off Iverson Boulevard west of Main Street The current Police Chief is Sergeant Nate Jacobson
