Bothell, Washington is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,993 at the 2010 census. Bothell is located on the north bank of the Duwamish River and is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. The first European settlers in Bothell were Emigrant George Hearn and his wife Anna (née Post) who arrived in 1855 from New York City. They built a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the river where they raised chickens and pigs until their farm burned down in 1861. They founded a small community around their farmstead which became known as "Hearn's Landing". A post office was established at Bothell in 1865, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1911. In 1886, Gottlieb Weiser erected a large frame house called "Heinrichs Hall" to become one of the first hotels west of the Pacific Ocean. The first school was organized in 1895 by Wm Sutherlin with five students and three teachers; it replaced an earlier school building which had been destroyed by fire two years earlier. The current school building was built in 1907–08; it retains many features from its predecessor including its octagon-shaped bell tower and gabled roof. In 1916, John Wesley Sell started selling newspapers from his home at 12th Avenue Northeast near Bothell Lake for $1 per week; this led to the development of what would later be called "Sell's Alley." During World War II, Pottsville resident John Ahern served as a driver for Army Air Forces units stationed at Boeing plants near Bothell; he also helped raise money for goods sent to Japan via shipping docks on Bainbridge Island . In 1961, Harry Aspinwall donated land to bothe town for use as an open space.; this included sections of property now occupied by locations such as Microsoft Woodstock Campus , Safeway Center , IMAX Theater , and CenturyLink Field . The Town voted to name itself after him in 1990 (). In 2000, Google moved its headquarters from Mountain View California to Bellevue Washington ; as part of that relocation effort, Google relocated some facilities including its main campus – including its Technology Research Institute – into what would become known asGoogleplex North across Elliott Bay from downtown Bothell. Today there are over 100 businesses located within walking distance of each other along 3rd Street NE., making Bothell one big shopping center with many small independent businesses scattered throughout also providing local services like plumbing/carpet sales etc.. Bothell was founded in 1851 by members of the Methodist Church. The town was named for Reverend Amos Bothell, a missionary to India. Bothell had a population of about 120 in 1870 and grew to over 1,200 by 1910. The first school in Bothell opened in 1852 and served grades one through four. In 1861, the state legislature passed an act providing for a public school system in Washington Territory. The first bothell High School opened on September 12, 1872. In 1905, the United States Congress enacted the Congressional Districts Act which created 11 new congressional districts in Washington Territory. Bothell was assigned to district No. 2 (which included all of what is now Tacoma). At that time, the town had a population of only 350 people. The post office at Bothell closed on November 30th, 1907, because of high postage rates caused by the increasing volume of mail being sent from Puget Sound region via railroadroads. In 1918, during World War I, Bothell became home to 3 US Naval Air Station naval air stations; NAS North Island (now SeaTac Airport), NAS South Island (now Joint Base Lewis-McChord) and NAS Cherry Point (now Seattle-Tacoma International Airport). After World War I ended, many servicemen returned home and began their civilian lives while their units were deactivated or reassigned elsewhere within the US military forces. This process continued until 1946 when all NAVAL AIR STATIONS were disbanded including NAS Cherry Point which reverted back to its original name -NAS North Island - and consequently ceased operations as an airport as well as having its land reallocated to other uses such as educational institutions and agricultural land.
