Bothell is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 12,976 at the 2010 census. Bothell is located on the east side of Seattle and is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. It is one of the most populous towns in King County and one of its largest municipalities by land area. The first settlement in Bothell was made on December 16, 1853 when James Wylie moved his family from Caldwell, Idaho to what is now Bothell after purchasing 640 acres (246 ha) near present-day Lake Union. The town site was chosen because it would be easily accessible from downtown Seattle and had good transportation connections to other parts of King County. In 1854, Joshua Stevens organized a group of settlers who named themselves "The Bothell Company." They built a log cabin at what is now Fourth Avenue Northeast and Main Street NW. The first school in Bothell was built in 1855 by teacher Abram Hewitt as an academy for boys under the name "Hewitt's School." This school operated until 1861 when it was replaced by bothe High School and thenBothell Academy which eventually became King's College (now UW-Seattle). In 1865, Isaac Haas donated land to the town for a public library; this library has been open continuously since that time. In 1870, Saratoga Springs Brewing Company began brewing beer here; today it remains one of Bothell's most important industries. In 1916, Town Council voted to annex land north of First Avenue NE which included much later home sites for Microsoft Corporation and Amazon Web Services companies; these expansions created new neighborhoods within the town limits: North Park – including Redmond Center – South Park – Eagle Rock – North Central – Eastlake Heights – Ballard Beach. A hospital opened in 1966 called Queen Elizabeth Hospital following an appeal from Mayor Dick Boldtstedt seeking help with local medical needs during times of war or emergency across Puget Sound regionwide crisis such as those seen during Watergate or any number of natural disasters such as landslides or wildfires throughout southeastern Washington state during that decade leading up to that point including those around Mount Rainier National Park experiencing significant growth due largely to World War II military construction projects there despite claims by some opponents then extant about potential negative environmental impact resulting therefrom none were ever substantiated beyond question until long overdue detailed reviews finally started more than two decades later culminating with closure last year/early next after many years without end following serious concerns about lack both financial sustainability overall as well as ability especially given current demographic changes notably housing prices newly attained recently etc.) .
