Bothell, Washington is a city in King County, Washington. The population was 21,521 at the 2010 census. Bothell was established in 1853 as a small town on the banks of the Duwamish River. It became an incorporated city in 1907. The current mayor is Jenny Durkan and the City Council has nine members. Bothell is located just south of Seattle on Interstate 5 and east of Redmond on Highway 99W. The first permanent settler in what would become Bothell were two brothers, George and David Shaw, who arrived from British Columbia in 1853 with their families. They built a log cabin on an eminence overlooking the Duwamish River where they now live. By 1865, they had Hubbell's Store and four other stores catering to traders traveling through the region between Seattle and Tacoma. In 1867, George Shaw married Mary Ann Hays; together they had six children: George (1868-1942), Anna (1870-1957), David (1872-1945), Everett (1874-1951), Ethel Maynard (1876-1978) and Ada Louise (died after childbirth). In 1907, when Bothell became an incorporated city, it consisted of only a few hundred residents around what are today its three downtown areas: North Park Street NW/South Park Street NE/East Kirkland Avenue SE/. Development began along South Kirkland Avenue SW which eventually led to annexation by Bothell in 1951. The original location for City Hall was at 4th and Union Streets NE but due to increased population growth that square footage could not be provided until 1958 when it moved to East Kirkland Avenue SE/. bothell public library opened january 1st 1913 inside bothell high school
