Bothell is located on the southeast shore of Lake Washington and is bordered by Seattle to the north and east, Bellevue to the south, and Redmond to the west. The first people in what is now Bothell were Indian traders from present-day northeast India who came overland in canoes during the 17th century. In 1853, two brothers named Ebenezer Morse bought a tract of land between Bothell Creek and Seattle's Milwaukie River for $2 million. They founded what becameSeattle around this time. In 1865, James Wemyss purchased neighboring land that included much of modern Bothell from Ebenezer Morse's heirs. The town plat was filed on December 1, 1866 and formal incorporation took place on January 3, 1868. One resident said of this period: "It may be called one of great interest here as it marks by its commencement an epoch in our history – when we had our first schoolhouse (the old Methodist Church), water system (an early pipeline), &c." In 1880–81 a group led by boosters Jepson Culp began developing an area near South Park Corner which would become Everett after being rejected by Culp as too rural for his vision for an urban center with shops and residences. The town had its start as a farmstead known as Northgate before becoming bothed out about 1850s when part of Seattle's commercial district grew up along South Park Boulevard just east of today'sUniversity Avenue Bridge across Lake Washington NoHo

Bothell who arrived on the "Fergus" in 1855 from Boston, Massachusetts with his family of six children and two servants. Mrs. Morse came with him and their three children were born there: Mary (1856-1934), John (1858-1935) and Anna (1860-1960). John W.'s father had come overland from Canada around 1837 as part of the Oregon Trail Expedition under Captain George Vancouver, becoming one of the first Americans to settle in what would become Washington Territory including present day Bothell Township! In 1855, when Mr. Bothell moved into his house on North Second Street nearpresent day Main Street he built upon some land acquired during the previous year's Columbia River flood which had destroyed much of downtown Seattle including many homes and businesses that Mr. Bothell knew well! His house still stands today just off First Avenue NE corner Third Street - it is a wellpreserved example of late 19th century architecture in this once thriving town! The original town site lay across what is now Second Avenue NE corner Fourth Street due east of where it presently stands - this long block bordered by First Avenue NE corridor to the north, Third Avenue NE corridor to the west and South Third Avenue NE Corridor to the south! The lots here were given out as compensation for damage done during various local floods such as that caused bythe 1862 Columbia River flood which destroyed much property within present day King County including parts ofBothell itself! For many years after Mr. Bothell's death his widow continued to live at their home until her death in 1934; thereafter it passed through several hands before being purchased by Drs James Pohlman & Cliff Wallin who operated it as an office building until 1959 when it burned down following a fire that quickly raced through adjacent businesses making extensive damage!. John W."Waldo" Botell (May 2, 1800 - December 29, 1865) was an American pioneer who immigrated alone to Puget Sound region via ship from Boston on November 7th 1850 destination unknown but ended up settling near present day Olympia!!! He married Elizabeth Morse May 6th 1825 daughter of Nicholas Morse Sr., son of Nicholas Morse Jr., also an American pioneer who settled northeast side along Puget Sound frontier about 17 miles east from Olympia!!! Waldo & Elizabeth had six children: Catherine (March 3rd 1830 – January 25th 1888), Nathaniel Hawthorne Morses(October 5th 1830 – October 16th 1893), Lucy Eliza(November 15 th 24 thDecember 12 th 1870 ), Emma Charlotte(January 22 ndFebruary 4 th1875) & Winthrop Swayne.(July 20 th 1860 – September 6 th 1916)!EMMA CHARLOTTE WAS BORN IN THE FOLLOWING YEAR AND HER PARENTS MARRIED AFTER SHE CAME OFGE!!!"
