After World War II many businesses left for economic reasons; however some companies such as Boeing still remain in the city today (although their facilities are smaller). In recent years there has been a large effort to redevelop much of downtown including the former Boeing site which has seen mixed success with some portions housing high-end commercial units while others have been left vacant or used for residential purposes only. In 2013-14 the city council approved plans for a new $200 million mixed use development called "CityPlace" on undeveloped land north of Interstate 5 just east of downtown near SeaTac Airport which would include an arena/sports complex/ hotel/ office building blocks as well as a recreational area including an amusement park and water park adjacent to it

At first, the immigrants employed local farmers to cultivate their land and support themselves and their families; however, by 1900 most of the town's residents were self-sufficient thanks to advances in transportation and industry that allowed for easy access to markets and education opportunities. Bode Boulevard (now Hwy 95) runs through central Bothell and is one of its few streets still named after early settlers or individuals associated with the community. Many of today's businesses were founded or continue operations within a few blocks of each other during this time period; this concentration of activity helped make Bothell an important cultural center for many years. During World War IIBothell became one of several towns in Western Washington hardest hit by rationing due to its large number of military personnel stationed there; fortunately no civilian casualties occurred as a result. In recent decades much progress has been made within the community both domestically and abroad including new development projects such as ArtPrize headquarters which are now located at nearby First Hill Parkade Shopping Center.; however much more needs to be done if Bothell wants to maintain its current level of quality life amenities and growth potential over time
