After working on this project for several months, he returned with some new ideas that would eventually become bullets. The first bullet was created from lead shot and was known as the “ musket ball” because it could only travel about 25 feet before detonating. These early projectiles were very effective at killing animals but were not very accurate due to their small size. In 1847, Captain James Fenton discovered that he could improve on these early projectiles by creating larger ones that could travel further before detonating. This new type of bullet would later be called the “bone-headed ball” because it had a hard core made out of bone that allowed it to travel much further than earlier projectiles without exploding prematurely. This improved projectile proved its worth during the American Revolution by hitting targets far away from where other shots would have likely killed them

Bonney Lake was platted on December 10, 1881 by D.W. McDonald and Wm.J. Osterholm from a land grant given to them by Governor Isaac Stevens.[1] The name honors John Bonney (1821-1892), a frontier lawyer who served in the U.S. Senate from 1889 to 1891 and as attorney general of Washington Territory from 1889 to 1891;[2] and his wife Mary Ewing (1827-1910). The original two stores were built on what is now Main Street: "The Old Store" still stands and serves as a museum with exhibits about Bonney Lake history;[3] while "The New Store" became an office building for local farmers until it burned down in 1944.[4] In 1909, the post office moved to its present location at 319 North Main Street after being destroyed by fire which also damaged several other buildings in the town center including the Methodist Church (then called "The Camp Meeting House"), schoolhouse #2, Masonic Temple (now known as "Fountain Park"), and new courthouse/ jail complex which was completed in 1912.[5][6][7][8] By 1925 there were only seven residents living in Bonney Lake,[9][10] but by 1930 there were over 100 people living here with businesses such as grocery store, livery stable, boat launch ramps etc., manufacturing companies like Boeing Airplane Manufacturing Co., Hewlett-Packard Co., Ballard Canning Company etc., all located along South Main Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue near where Interstate 5 crosses into Clark County today.[11][12] As early as 1907 there had been talk of building a dam across streams flowing through Bonney Lakes community so that water could be diverted for irrigation purposes but no action was taken until 1916 when proposals were made again for damming one stream but this time it was recommended that money should be raised locally instead since irrigation would become more important than ever with World War I raging on; however no action was taken until 1923 when county commissioners met to consider creating a Rural Water District within Clark County due to increasing demands for water sources not just within Wenatchee Valley but also outside it especially around Spokane Valley; $4000 has thus been raised towards this end making construction possible on July 6th 1924 with completion delayed due To Congestion On The Snake River Bridge).[13][14][15][/16][/17][/18][/19][/20][/21]'

Bonney Lake was originally called Beaver, which is the name of a Creek settlement on the lower Columbia River. In 1854, John Bonney founded a small post on the site which he named after his brother-in-law, Salmon P. Chase. The post served as a trading post and trail stop for travelers on the Oregon Trail. In 1875, Bonney Lake became a town when it was platted by John Wickersham. The town was renamed after General George Washington Bonney in 1903. The community has experienced many changes over its history including becoming an agricultural center in the early 1900s; becoming a bedroom community during World War II; and being affected by the methamphetamine epidemic in the 2000s. Today, Bonney Lake is home to a number of businesses and services including two hospitals, several schools, and several churches.
In 1884, the Bonney Lake Manufacturing Company was founded by Rasmus Bonney and his brother, John. The company made flour, feed, shoes and other products. In 1922, the company merged with the Snohomish County Lumber Company to form the Snohomish County Lumber & Paper Mill.
